Primary school info, Glasgow

Hi,

I’ve recently moved to the Southside of Glasgow with my family. Our three year old will be starting school next year and we’re in the catchment for Tinto Primary school. I haven’t been able to find out much about it and it looks like we won’t be able to visit because of covid restrictions. Does anyone have any experience of the school? Not sure if I should apply outwith to Merrylee as it looks like a nicer place, but only going on the handbook and can’t really tell from that!

Thanks!

I know a few kids who went there (played rugby alongside ds) and they seem/seemed happy with the school. The boys are 21 now though so the experience is a bit out of date Wink

It's certainly not a school that I've heard bad things of - and because until very recently I was heavily involved with the junior section of the local rugby club, I tended to hear comments about lots of the Southside schools Grin

This is only a very vague sense, but I'm not sure it's great. A lot of kids I've know of from there (loose connection) have been a bit 'wild'.

Thanks @Haudyourwheest, I’m hoping there’ll be some way of looking round before enrolment time - online at least!

My kids went there. Both now left but I liked it. Yes it’s got a mixed catchment but you’ll find that at almost every school in Glasgow. Mrs Crawford the head teacher came in about 5 years ago and really improved things. Former HT was just cruising until retirement.

DM me if you want more info.

You really can't rely on a placing request, so it's a bit of a like it or lump it situation in Glasgow atm.

I don’t know too much about the school but their play ground and equipment is great and the school itself is in really good condition… Merrylee is a great school too but really big. I think they’re using temp ‘huts’ as classrooms. The other local school is OLA which is brilliant with I think the smallest school roll in Glasgow (about 150 pupils) but the school building is pretty tired and the playground not great

Hi @Star8179, you'd maybe be better asking your question on a new thread, it'll reach more people. Smile
