NHS Lanarkshire stopped drop in covid vaccine clinics

Ds has an appointment on Sunday for his first vaccine (age 15). He is playing rugby and won't make the appointment time he has been given. I phoned the helpline number given the other day and they said its OK and he could just go to a drop in clinic. They couldn't find an alternative date/time for him. Now on twitter I see they have stopped their drop in clinics so what should we do?

Do we just go later on on the Sunday as then he will be late rather than being a drop in person? He doesn't want to miss it as who knows when he would get another appointment

Could you go early instead of going late?

dementedpixie · 02/10/2021 00:22

Not sure he wants a sore arm beforehand
I wouldn't want to play a contact sport with a vaccinated arm

What do you feel is more important? The rugby game, or being vaccinated?

dementedpixie · 02/10/2021 00:32

I dont think he should let his whole team down for the sake of the vaccine tbh especially as the match was organised before his appointment letter came through (with very short notice). Just wondered if it was feasible to be a bit late going to the appointment (on the same day)

Could you travel to a different health board? NHS Lothian still have drop in clinics.

Ladylunchalot · 02/10/2021 11:30

When I was working in the vaccine clinics earlier in the year it was fine to be a bit later, just as long as the appointment was that day. That was NHS Lanarkshire as well, not sure if they are stricter now though.

dementedpixie · 02/10/2021 11:33

He wouldn't be an extra person on that day, just a bit later than his appointment time. Might just turn up with him and see what they say

I'd give it a go, worse case is they say they can't do it but I doubt they'll do that.

DD12 got her letter on Thursday afternoon with appt for 6 last night, various plans already in place which meant letting others down too if we changed for it. We rescheduled online.

dementedpixie · 02/10/2021 11:49

How did you manage to reschedule online without a user ID? Ds's letter didn't have one

OP posts:
Jbck · 02/10/2021 12:39

You request new password iirc, tbh DH did it but I did the same with mine earlier in the year as I couldn't attend first appt they sent.

dementedpixie · 02/10/2021 13:03

I had a user name on my letter but ds doesnt

There's a recover username option on nhs inform.
They email it to you

dementedpixie · 02/10/2021 13:48

You need to have had 1 vaccine dose to recover a username (I already tried that)

How much later would it be?

Personally I would prioritise his vaccine over one rugby match.

Lidlfix · 02/10/2021 16:01

BBC reporting that NHS Lanarkshire are reinstating drop in clinics. So looks like he'll get the vaccination at a time that suits.

dementedpixie · 02/10/2021 16:09

Must have been an outcry then because they only stopped them on 1st October!

Came back to share after seeing this last night, but beaten to it 😀
I now need to quiz DH who has a habit of saying he's done stuff when he hasn’t actually got round to it 🙄

dementedpixie · 03/10/2021 17:39

Well he's had it done now after playing in his rugby match. They didn't look at the letter; just asked if he had an appointment, which he did (although he was about 40 minutes late for it).
