Question for @prettybird or anyone else familiar with the area. I’ve seen a few flats listed recently - Lethington Place, they always look interesting. Is this a good area, what’s the history of the development?

Don't know anyone who lives in the specific flats but we used to live on the upper level of Bellwood Street (a lovely 1 bed tenement flat that had bay windows on both sides) and that part of Shawlands is a good area. Used to walk past those flats regularly and never saw anything amiss.

You'd be close to the shops on Deanston Drive and Kilmarnock Road, as well as the lovely amenity of Queens Park.

Is that the development that was built in the 60s or 70s, ie not tenements?

If it is, my Aunt lived there in the 1980s. Her flat faced the wrong way to get much sun and the bath was tiny. Like 4 ft long. And only had electric heaters. Nice size rooms though.

Area was ok though. But it was the 80s so I’m not sure about now.

At least I’ve bumped for you Grin

Great location, lovely grounds (££ upkeep fees??), electric heating, I'd probably want one with replacement windows even if not so pretty. Compact.

Thanks - I keep looking at the property pages for a 1 or 2 bed flat. I don't know this location well so was curious if anyone had thought on it.

Good to hear the positives re the location. Though electric heating is a concern with the current price hikes :(

Things may have changed since the 80s re heating. But it’s one to watch out for when looking at particulars.

Current price hikes are mainly gas guess who just put in a new gas boiler last year Wink - but all forms of power are going up at the moment Sad

Negative of the lovely Victorian high ceilings in tenements and villas is the big drafty sash windows which leach heat Hmm. Not that I would swap for a modern house Grin

(Replacing our 9 large wooden sash windows with double glazed wooden sash windows is on my wish list Wink)

It's a nice location of the south side and usually quite sought after. Couldn't tell you about the actually flats though as I come from the west end lol

Bratnews · 23/09/2021 14:52

West End is out of budget!

There were some issues with the buildings a few years ago
Probably resolved by now and I can't recall the details but check the survey carefully
Great location
