And any taxi firms that can carry 8 people at once?

No but I've frequently taken long distance journeys by private hire car
In my experience, you are better off looking for a local company that specialises in executive travel/private hire than a taxi company as it will be a lot cheaper and a lot more comfortable.

Taxis are set up for short distance and charge by mileage. Executive travel companies have more comfortable cars and will do you an all in price.

For 8 people, you may be better off splitting into 4 +4 but you'll need to shop around and get quotes.

For 4 people LHR cars do it for £120 roughly but they are in London so you probably can get a cheaper quote locally.

Right now it’s about £60 quid in a normal Uber, so you could book 2 during a quiet time when there is no ‘surge’ and extra charges.

I imagine a private hire company would be about the same. Ring for a quote.

Me and DH had to get a black cab from Glasgow to Edinburgh after missing our train and it was £80. This was 10 years ago so it might be 50% more now!

For sure some of the private hire have people carriers for 8 people.

Justmuddlingalong · 16/09/2021 22:16

Ring some taxi companies and ask for a fixed price for an 8 seater. A fixed price can be considerably cheaper than a bog standard by the mile price.

Fluffypastelslippers · 16/09/2021 22:16

Heathrow cars are not quoting £120 to do Glasgow to Edinburgh. They are not even in the same country Confused

OP I would just call some taxi companies. We don't have exec cars here like they do in London and although a different city I do know most 8 seater cars would be licensed as taxis. Taking 2 cars will cost more, without a doubt.

Also it will not be a metered fare it would be an agreed out of town set price you are given.

Will do.thanks

I'd look for an airport transfer from wherever you are in Glasgow to Edinburgh Airport - should be easy enough to get that quoted on line and then either ask for a fixed fee to wherever you need in Edinburgh or take it metered from airport-ish onwards.

ssd · 16/09/2021 22:21

Good idea

This place looks like it has an 8 seater:

ElephantOfRisk · 16/09/2021 22:23

It won't be cheap I suppose but then the cost of train for 8 fairly adds up.

That's what I got for a search for Edinburgh airport to Glasgow airport - but as I said, you should get executive travel quote cheaper that is locally based.

Yes it doesn't look bad at all, thanks for that @ElephantOfRisk

Are you going from edinburgh airport or city centre?
The 3 black cab companies in Edinburgh are City Cabs, Comm Cabs and Central Taxis but I don't know if they'd have any vehicles large enough for 8 people (and luggage?)
"All the 5s" private hire are showing the option of an 8 seater vehicle and they do fixed fares so you should be able to get a quote allthefives.taxi/book-online/

emmathedilemma · 17/09/2021 14:49

Also check the option of a group discount if you use the train (but if you're starting from the airport the train is a faff) www.scotrail.co.uk/tickets/group-discounts

womaninatightspot · 17/09/2021 14:50

I'd ring round the private hire companies. They have taxi metres but will do a set rate to Glasgow. Probably a 20 quid surcharge to prebook the 8 seater

Try Airport Shuttle Scotland.

We often get a taxi from just outside Glasgow (North Lanarkshire)to Edinburgh airport and vice versa and pay about £60. However that's us using our local taxi firm. We checked prices with Edinburgh taxi companies and they were double the price so I'd recommend using a company based in Glasgow.

I might be wrong, but I reckon this info is a little late for op now... four and a half years later
