Rush hour trains into / out of Glasgow

I have been WFH since March 2020 but have meetings in Glasgow in thr next 2 days. I'll need to travel in rush hour which is making me nervous. I could drive. Are the trains busy? How are the roads? I'll be bang in the city centre both days.

What direction are you coming from? We get the Edinburgh/Glasgow train but we don't go all the way to Glasgow and it's been quiet-ish around 730 to 8 but gets progressively busier after that.

It's from Edinburgh, coming into Queen St. I need to be at Queen St around 8.30am and will leave from Queen St around 5.45pm

Those trains have something like 8 carriages on them, well they used to pre March 2020.

Hmm. I was on a train a few weekends ago from Edinburgh to home (about half way on the same line). It was much busier than I'd expected... I might drive

If you leave Edinburgh at 7.15 to get in for 8.30 you'll be able to get a seat with adequate space, same if you get the 5.45 train back. Driving through for 8.30 could be really busy and you'd have to leave at 6.30 to guarantee being through for 8.30.

I can second that the roads through Glasgow are busy at rush hour and back to pre-pandemic levels. Expect parking to be a nightmare too once you get there unless your destination has a private car park. Tbh if I had meetings right in the city centre I'd probably get the train.

I drove today Roads were super busy - especially getting onto the M8. Train tomorrow I think...
