Really glad to see the numbers looking better.

I’m still feeling utterly flattened by it all at the moment. I don’t expect this winter to be anything like as bad as the last, but even so, the thought of endless endless masks and one-way systems and WFH and never getting to set foot inside my DC’s school and nursery and government adverts finger-wagging at me to do all of my socialising outdoors makes me want to curl up and sob.

And I don’t care how much it’s presented as ‘protective measures’ and ‘baseline measures’ rather than restrictions. It is restrictions, it is making my life greyer and more miserable, and the government trying to brand it as ‘protection’ for my own good is just pissing me off now. Like the original tiers being ‘protection levels’ up here Hmm

I suppose I should just look on the bright side that it probably won’t be homeschooling and daily walks trudging round in the sleet again? sigh. Sad

government adverts finger-wagging at me to do all of my socialising outdoors makes me want to curl up and sob.

People wont comply with this again.
We all did it last yr while waiting for the vaccine.
What would we be waiting for now?
If the nhs isn't coping the gov will get the blame now as they fund and run it.
People feel they've done their bit in getting vaccinated.

And according to the SG public dashboard the highest cases per 100,000 by a long way are in the under 19s.
So what would they close that would make a difference?
Schools?

For all these reasons I don't think we'll have restrictions again.

GoldenOmber · 26/09/2021 19:57

No, I don’t think they’ll bring in any new restrictions either, but I also don’t think they’ll lift the ones we already have. Adverts telling us to socialise outdoors are all over my Twitter and Facebook as it is. This one from this evening:

I’m feeling pretty desperate too @GoldenOmber.

Lost my oomph in the face of all this.

Completely agree.

sartorius · 26/09/2021 20:10

I'm sort your both feeling that wayThanks
Ignore those adverts, everyone else is!
Look on attached from SG dashboard where all the cases are and SG know this fine well.
If you're vaccinated just get on and live your life.
Don't let them intimidate you.

And it's testament to how well the vaccines are doing,
Biggest cases are in unvaccinated groups and they won't put strain on nhs.

sartorius · 26/09/2021 20:17

Sorry not sort

WouldBeGood · 26/09/2021 20:18

I can’t get on and live my life though because of all the pish

GoldenOmber · 26/09/2021 20:19

Oh I’m definitely ignoring the adverts. Like buggery I’m meeting people in limited numbers outdoors now we’ve all been vaccinated!

I suppose part of the frustrations for me personally (can’t speak for others) is that I’m not getting much benefit of going ‘beyond level 0’, or even level 0 really. Still WFH in a very risk-averse organisation that won’t move without government saying so, so I can’t go back to work, and my hobbies are all really restricted by things like masks (fine for a 10-minute amble round a shop but fairly shit for choir practice) and public buildings having really cautious rules and capacity constraints, so I can’t do them properly either. So still feels very much in limbo.

GoldenOmber · 26/09/2021 20:22

I think I’d manage fine with it all if there was some sort of light at the end of the tunnel. But the government seem fairly rubbish at providing those and fairly rubbish at understanding why people might want them.

SylviasMotherSaid · 26/09/2021 20:27

I am so so sick of wearing masks and people preaching that it’s not a big deal I hate them more than words can say the stupidness of wearing them into a cafe then taking it off then putting it back on and then being able to sit in a crowd at a football game without one I just need to vent how much I can’t stand them I like my face I like wearing makeup and lipstick and being able to smile at people and I just need to vent how much I can’t stand masks

Haudyourwheesht · 26/09/2021 20:38

I think I'm quite lucky in that things like soft play or the very rare baby group aren't really bothering with masks, and it's not bothering me too much wheeching it on to go to the toilet in the pub (on the rare occasion I'm in a pub). The DC's nursery seems mostly back to normal, barring the pick up and drop off at the front door, but while I'm missing the chat with the girls, it's undoubtedly faster.

Wearing them in a classroom is a bugger though. The sooner that goes the better.

WouldBeGood · 26/09/2021 20:48

@SylviasMotherSaid yes. And I’m sick of being billed as selfish because I feel the sane

mibbelucieachwell · 26/09/2021 20:52

I get you too. I'd like to go to an evening class, but they're all online. So no thank you.

I did go to a concert last night and dutifully wore a mask. So ridiculous when nobody was close enough to be subjected to coronavirus droplets and the virus is mostly transmitted through aerosols anyway. Normally I'd be smiling while I clap the performers and exchanging glances or cordial asides with people sitting close by, but that's not possible in a mask.

I had to cancel some of my pupils when I had a cold recently while waiting for a PCR result. Pupils who would otherwise have been okay to have a lesson have missed their lesson because of having colds, just in case. Which is thoughtful of them and I appreciate it but it's still an annoying disruption to their lessons and loss of income for me. It's only September no doubt there'll be more colds/might be covid stop everything incidents throughout autumn and winter.

Some of my friends are still anxious about getting covid so we modify what we do. People have very strong opinions about being cautious/responsible etc so I feel I have to be careful what I say. I'd like to say I think the restrictions are disproportionate but that's taboo with a lot of my contacts.

I hate the fact that attending DS' graduation ceremony (in London) is dependent on not having potential covid symptoms or not being a close contact.

I thought once we'd been vaccinated I'd be able to forget about covid and get on with things normally but no. And for god knows how long. It's depressing.

SylviasMotherSaid · 26/09/2021 21:04

The thing that bothers me is I know people who take loads of what I see as risks in other aspects of life and yet they are still preaching on social media about following the rules and non mask wearers and pretty much acting like everything is still pre vaccine . I would say I’m fairly risk averse in most situations and sensible but I just can’t bring myself to be in the 2020 mindset where Covid is this huge big scary deal and I say that with family members who were on the shielding list . Everyone seems so polarised about everything this year i don’t know if I am alone in this but I have found 2021 an awful year compared to last year and things just seem so flat and blah .

GoldenOmber · 26/09/2021 21:24

Yes, I am also getting a bit pissed off with some of the people I know ("you wouldn't smoke at the school gates, so why are people so selfish grumbling about wearing a mask at the school gates?" from a woman who regularly drives her 4x4 riiiiiiiiiight up to the school entrance through the standstill traffic sharing fumes with all the walking kids and then parks on the pavement, ffs).

Have resisted snapping at people though because I feel like even more arguing and polarisation is the last thing we need.

On The Nine they've just been talking about what we're always discussing on here.
PHS releases figures nearly 1/3 people in hospital with covid were admitted for another reason

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/09/2021 11:19

That's similar to the figures published by PHE I am pretty sure, so basically what we've guessed at all along.
