Help with suggestions for days out from Larkhall

I'm staying with my FIL in Larkhall with my children (13 and11). We've been coming here every year since they were little and I'm out of ideas. Can anyone suggest days out from here? Any gems that the locals know that I've missed?
We are off to Edinburgh Zoo on friday, we've climbed Tinto Hill, been to all the NTS properties near by, visited Ayr and Robbie Burns connections but I must have missed a few gems!
Any local knowledge would be gratefully received.

Train to Glasgow?
Trip to Summerlee?
Walk around Strathclyde Park?

dementedpixie · 23/08/2021 21:44

Glasgow Science Centre
Chatelherault country park

Arewethereyet21 · 23/08/2021 21:47

New Lanark, falls of Clyde walk, Chatelheraut country park, Strathclyde park for watersports, Amazonia and M&Ds, into Glasgow to Riverside Museum and Tall ship?

PiratePenguin · 23/08/2021 21:48

Love Chatelherault - we walked there last year from my FIL along the river.
Not done the science centre - will look into that - thanks
Glasgow always a winner - not been to summerlee.
Is Edinburgh a no go what with the festival? Is parking a nightmare.
Thank you for your suggestions x

Great suggestions @ arewethereyet21 we have done all of those on previous years with the exception of watersports - I’m off to Google that now!

Don't think the watersports centre is open at Strathclyde Park. Last time I was there neither was the cafe

latissimusdorsi · 23/08/2021 21:54

Edinburgh busy but ok at moment. Festival much smaller this year. You'd need to park and ride though.
At airport and take the tram? Or Uphall station and take train or park on street near zoo and take bus

If you're coming east then Jupiter Artland near Edinburgh
Maid of the Forth trip at south Queensferry

Owl centre at Polkemmet. Time it so you're there for one of the flying displays.

Summerlee, Seven Lochs Wetland Park, kayaking and paddle boarding at Pinkston.

glasshalfsomething · 23/08/2021 22:15

Stirling?
Falkirk wheel?
Loch Lomond?

Mrsjayy · 23/08/2021 22:16

The new st James's centre is open in Edinburgh Dd says its " fancy " 😀 get the train. New lanark you need to book to go into the attractions we went a few weeks ago but its only a fiver I love it there.

Mrsjayy · 23/08/2021 22:18

Oh you are going to the Zoo this Friday coming sorry I misread.

DessieSaysDiy · 23/08/2021 22:21

Go ape? It’s a zip line adventure park about an hours drive away.
Ice skating at east Kilbride or time capsule for skating and swimming?
Trampoline park at rutherglen?
Troon beach and crazy golf?
Enjoy and hope the sun shines x

I love Mumsnet! Thank you all for your suggestions - some of which we have done but there are some new things here that I shall be investigating. I appreciate you taking the time to comment on here.

Drive to Largs and take the ferry and bus to Millport and cycle around the island. (Don’t be tempted by the tandem-much harder than it looks!) Fish and chips in Largs before trip home.

Train to Balloch and wander about Lomond Shores.

Summerlee is a good day out. Go Ape at Aberfoyle (also watersports at Loch Ard or Loch Vennachar).

If you’re going to Edinburgh I hear the Festival vibe is missing this year. The Camera Obscura was always a hit with our crew, as was Dynamic Earth.

Have fun!

Horispondle · 23/08/2021 23:31

The Go Kart track in Larkhall! Someone on here said it was good but my kids are too little yet so haven't been.

ACPC · 23/08/2021 23:35

Was also going to suggest the Kart track
larkhallcircuit.com

WeeM · 23/08/2021 23:44

Day trip to Loch Lomond/luss (watersport or boat trip maybe), Stirling castle/Wallace monument/bannockburn centre, new Lanark, Ayrshire coast for the beach.

ACPC · 24/08/2021 00:03

Apologies op, I think the Go Karts are for over 14s

Confuzzlediddled · 24/08/2021 00:15

Day trip to loch Katrine and a cruise on the Sir Walter Scott Steam paddler?

PiratePenguin · 24/08/2021 08:31

So today we are going to Glasgow to potter and pick up the last bits my girls will need for school. Tomorrow is Lock Lomond and a trip out to 'Treasure Island'.
I had never heard of the Larkhall circuit before (no advertising up around Larkhall that i have seen) - will look in to that for our next trip. Thank you for all your suggestions, I shall look through them for things to do on the rest of the days we are here.
I really appreciate you taking the time to share your ideas.
