Is there a bug similar to COVID but not going around??

Hey

My DC are both ill with something similar to the symptoms of COVID but the PCR test says negative.

Started with 'bubbling' stomach
Then nausea
Really bad dihorrea
Then vomited once
Seemed OK this morning but now high fevers, headaches, and really tired.

DS had covid in December 2020. He is kind of like he was then but he didn't vomit or have diahorrea back then.

Obviously I know it could be any kind of bug, they are 11 and 16 so they've had their fair share of bugs pre covid, but I'm just curious if there's another bug going about at present that you know of??

Hoping it's not a false negative and it's something we are more 'used to' than covid..

If they became ill at the same time I'd suggest food poisoning. What had they eaten before becoming unwell?

amethyst2522 · 16/08/2021 19:04

@LizzieMacQueen DS was at his dad's when he started being ill and had been for the whole 2 days previous. DD had been here. So they ate completely different things. DS became ill yesterday morning and DD this morning.

We've had this, was the start of bronchiolitis

Currently in hospital with my 10 week old with it x

Delta has d&v symptoms and is getting missed on PCR tests apparently, could well be Covid.

amethyst2522 · 16/08/2021 19:09

It must either be a virus DD got from DS when he was last here before going to dad's (Friday morning and he got ill Sunday morning), or else something he gave her really rapidly - ill DS got back here Sunday afternoon and DD was ill by this morning.

Strange. That's also why I thought COVID, cause the incubation period and asymptomatic transmission on Fri am kind of adds up. I hope not.

I'm half vaccinated and I feel fine also. But I know that adults can be less affected by D+V bugs than Kids.

@SandysMam thanks I didn't know that. I really hope not. I'd rather them be ill with something that's been about for longer iyswim.

DS had positive PCR last December and he was moderately ill (headaches, fever, tiredness, very strange all over body rash) and it lasted quite a while. Me and DD never got ill.

lots of norovirus going around at the moment, extraordinary amounts for this time of year.

IsItAllOverYetPlease · 16/08/2021 23:55

@itsharderthanithought89 sorry to hear about your baby. that sounds really tough. I hope they recover soon.

my 16 month old has had a chronic wet cough since May, she keeps getting colds on top of colds so the fluid has built up in her lungs. consultant thinks its protracted bacterial bronchitis. she has a runny nose a lot and did go through a week of not eating and high fever in July. she had xrays last week and there's a lot of inflammation and mucus on her lungs and she's been prescribed 3 weeks of antibiotics now. hoping it clears soon as I'm convinced it's delayed her development, she just can't sleep well and is permanently exhausted - as are we!

Disneyblue · 17/08/2021 00:00

I think there's a lot of norovirus about and similar. I guess it's because people are mixing more now.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/08/2021 00:19

there will be all sorts, particularly as we havent been exposed to so much

fourtail · 17/08/2021 00:23

My ds2 has vomited twice and had a high temp 39.8 and bubbling stomach as well. Hospital said there's some virus going on as there have been an influx of children similar aged coming in. A week before all of this unfolding, DS was grumpy, wouldn't eat anything, extremely naughty and constantly crying over things that he never normally would which I thought it's probably his molars, turns out he had two types of infection but not covid.

KatySun · 17/08/2021 20:03

itsharderthanithought I hope your baby gets better soon Flowers

Re the OP, my DD has been ill for five days now with stomach pains, vomiting and diarrhoea, headache, muscle ache, fatigue and a mild fever. The GP said to get a covid test, but it came back negative. She seems to have turned a corner and be on the mend today, I hope at least. We don’t know what caused it as she is the only one who is ill.
