DH and I are thinking of leaving the DC with my mum and dad for a night and sloping off to St Andrews (or surrounds) for food and a night in a hotel.

Where’s good?

It’d be late August.

We spent a week there and it was fab! Not sure about hotel but cocktails, drinks + food = the Adamson was wonderful and centre of town

alongtimeagoandfaraway · 04/08/2021 22:14

Hotel du Vin was lovely last year.

Rufflets is fabulous

Haribeau · 05/08/2021 08:03

Also The Old Course is fabulous too and walking distance into town with views over the beach 🏖

florafoxtrot · 05/08/2021 09:14

We’ve stayed in Hotel du Vin and it’s a lovely location and delicious breakfast.

Heatherington · 05/08/2021 18:28

Boo! Hotel du vin has no availability.

Not keen on the Old Course.

Rufflets, I’ve heard mixed things about recently.

(I’m from the area so I’ve no need of sightseeing, or locations, I just literally want a nice night out with DH! Haven’t had the chance to be kid-free in years.)

I was also looking at Peat Inn but they’ve no availability either.

Why not Edinburgh? Loads of hotels

NoYOUbekind · 05/08/2021 20:05

We stayed there last week - the meal in Hotel du Vin was terrible, I would avoid like the plague.

We also ate in a place called Lupo's - sort of modern Italian and we also had a great lunch in the Tailend (posh fish and chips) - both excellent but very casual. I was eyeing up the Seafood Ristorante but DS didn't fancy it, it looked gorgeous though. We also had a recommendation for the Steak Barn which is just a wee bit further out but we didn't make it there.

HGC2 · 05/08/2021 20:11

We stayed at the fairmont and ate at Forgan’s, id recommend both

Because they want to go to St Andrews Confused
What a strange question.

Fabellini · 05/08/2021 20:18

The Fairmont is very nice, and they do a brilliant afternoon tea. It’s a bit out of town though.
Forgan’s and the Dolls House are both great, and for more casual, the Steak Barn at Balgove is brilliant….providing nobody’s vegetarian of course Grin

Hotel Du Vin do a great deal if you stay on a Sunday night. Had a really nice meal and stay there a couple years back. There's loads of places to stay. Maybe see what's on offer?

Totally Grin

Why not London, OP? Or Spain?

user1471519931 · 05/08/2021 20:54

@Kinneddar ...because St Andrews is a small town and to try to get a last minute hotel room in the height of the tourist season / golf season / staycation madness is probably nigh on impossible so just offering up an alternative where there will defo be rooms available...

Because my parents are in the east neuk and I’m literally talking about sneaking out once the weans are in their pjs (if not in actually bed) and being back in time to have elevenses with them in the morning.

Old parents + young children = little opportunity for scoffing nice food and sleeping peacefully in luxurious surroundings.

Of course you didn’t! Why would you? Under less constrained circumstances I’d love the idea of Edinburgh!

Forgans or little Italy for food.

We stayed in an Airbnb so can't help with somewhere to stay unfortunately
