They might not be arrested, investigated and prosecuted but if you can't see that effectively making their actions illegal is potentially problematic then I think that you are being obtuse.

It puts them in a weird grey area at the very least which isn't ideal surely?

florafoxtrot · 01/08/2021 17:13

No. I’m saying the law is poorly drafted and considered. And I’m trying to phrase my argument in a constructive manner. I’m not calling anyone ridiculous or rolling my eyes.

ResilienceWanker · 01/08/2021 17:35

The Home Office has confirmed, (on twitter at least Hmm) that this wouldn't apply to the RNLI. I haven't seen the full regulations, but it may be that there are exceptions in another clause of the legislation, or some could be added in to avoid any confusion. Of course, it would be nice if the whole thing could be ripped up and started again, but as that's not going to happen, I'd hope the pressure put on over this issue will mean that clause at least is better drafted.

(I'm also assuming there are even worse things in there that have been hidden over the furore over this, so I'm hoping some sensible MPs/ drafters take the time to look over it properly).

Scottishskifun · 01/08/2021 17:36

I'm rolling my eyes as it's going around in circles probably boring the tits off everyone else!

There is no grey area for the RNLI it's been a media and twitter storm created. I suggest going to read the RNLI statement on it and how the process works along with the regulations they are under and directed by a govt agency.

Keep wondering if I have stumbled onto the wrong thread.

Huge derail. I can't be the only one that thinks you should set up a new thread for this debate.

Massive squirrel.
forfucksakenett · 01/08/2021 17:50

Surely the conversation goes where it goes. It always ends up back on track.

I note that some derailments are okay while others aren't but it was ever thus!

florafoxtrot · 01/08/2021 17:53

Tbh I thought it was a subject worthy of a bit of debate. Obviously you don’t @Scottishskifun so not sure why you kept replying.

Happy to leave it there.

ResilienceWanker · 01/08/2021 17:55

(sorry - I got sucked into the debate... Blush It would be fair game for the railing thread, I assume, but this isn't the railing thread Blush Whoops)

So, guesses for restrictions still in place next week, in absolutely normal tier minus 1? I'm going for masks in all places they are currently required including schools, 1m distancing indoors (and so limits on numbers for indoor things), double jabbed let off isolating as contacts but only if they get a negative test, keeping the bastarding booking/signing in things, and prohibiting anything fun like singing or dancing or godless things like that indoors.

Cismyfatarse · 01/08/2021 17:57

@ElephantOfRisk What is a "massive squirrel"? DS, who considers himself quite the internet expert, doesn't know.

I,of course, know absolutely nothing and would love to know.

It references to an article last week. It's when someone shouts "oh look a squirrel" as a technique to deflect from something they'd prefer not to have noticed or talked about.

So in this case, talking about the drug deaths so the poster who tried to deflect from the SNPs culpability in those last year, drops in a story about something else where they feel they can blame westminster.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 01/08/2021 18:50

I realise this is an absolute non sequitur but thought this was interesting given how often people accuse the SNO of favouring Indy plans over everything else (and I say that as someone who is very SNP-ambivalent)

forfucksakenett · 01/08/2021 18:52

@IncludeWomenInThePrequel absolutely not surprised at this. I actually think that the downfall of the SNP will be exactly this. I just don't get any sense of urgency or desire for independence under NS 🤷🏻‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 01/08/2021 19:27

I actually think the Indy thing is over given the position of the SNP leadership, and the turnout in Dundee yesterday for the AUOB demo yesterday. At least for many years.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 01/08/2021 19:33

Agree. I support Indy but the SNP have lost my support over women's issues. And I'm far from the only one.

Exactly. RNLI, Farage and the English Channel is outwith the grasp of even Queen Nicola.

Anyway. I won't be watching to see Queen Nicola's Covid briefing on Tuesday because she will speak a lot and say precisely nothing. She has for the second year shafted the teachers with her policy of waiting until the last minute to make an announcement. She's saying what's happening on the 3rd, our kids are back on the 12th. So that leaves Wednesday-Friday this week, and Monday-Wednesday next week to put everything in place.

She's made it fairly clear she disagrees with the JCVI's decision not to vax 12-17 year olds so will probably continue with her policy of blended learning, masks, whole class isolations, not being allowed to get changed for PE, no singing, "no exams, teachers decide, oh wait we'll have these assessments with 2 minutes notice, but they're definitely not exams" utter bollocks.

I have an 18 year old who has just left school after Covid fucked his Highers and Advanced Highers. I also have a 16 year old who is about to start her Highers to sit them next year. I will have a serious sense of humour failure if she fucks her chances over too.

And PLEASE CAN WE DITCH THE MASKS???

Ladylunchalot · 01/08/2021 21:54

I love Garrion Bridge Garden Centre, the antiques section is worth a look. I live 5 minutes away from there but tend to browse when the schools are back, gets pretty busy in the holidays.
It's garden centre central along that way, always lovely at Christmas time. Best cafes as well. Can also highly recommend Orchard Farm shop (and cafe) just along that way before Sandyholm (now Dobbies). Bet fruit and veg in the shire there.

WouldBeGood · 01/08/2021 22:00

Yes!! Get rid of the bloody masks!!

WouldBeGood · 01/08/2021 22:02

@Ladylunchalot I love a garden centre at Christmas- cannot wait to see Garrion bridge then! There’s just so much.. we were in for hours 😂

It certainly doesn't disappoint. There's just so much to see there, it really does take ages to get round it - I prefer going on my own as dh and ds hate shopping and moan constantly and dd costs me too much Grin

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 01/08/2021 22:40

Lots of people don't want to ditch masks!

WouldBeGood · 01/08/2021 22:43

They are welcome to keep them @IncludeWomenInThePrequel. absolutely no need for them to be law now

WouldBeGood · 01/08/2021 22:43

Or indeed ever

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 01/08/2021 22:49

Also no need to keep going and on and on and about getting rid of them. If the mask wearers among us don't bang on about it, that can go both ways surely.

WouldBeGood · 01/08/2021 22:51

Well, the thing is that choice would be good. I’ll happily never mention them again once Im not expected to wear one.
