We are looking to relocate to Kelso and notice two of the newer areas as Wallaceneauk and Broomlands. Does anyone else live there and may be let us know what the area is like? Is it friendly etc?

Not been here long but so far, really good

Where are you coming from/what drives the move ?

Morgan111 · 25/07/2021 16:28

We are coming back to Scotland after living abroad. We are originally from Grampian but prior to going overseas was going to look for work in the borders. We can now work remotely and following our gut feel. We love community, rugby, folk music, walking and reasonable access to Edinburgh. Kelso seems like the perfect place and the houses in both those areas look great especially as some others look pricey.

You'll know it's not city life then ,and it's a bit of a hike to Edinburgh with only slow ) pretty ) country roads

The area has fibre for work
Folk festival running in September.
Houses are not often available
Reputed to have a good micro climate , probably milder than Grampian . Hard to tell as it's been glorious this year so far !

I have dragged dh up here to be closer to my folks in Northumberland and we both love it

Yes, I am well aware to the slow roads, lol as we lived in the countryside in Aberdeenshire. Nobody ever went anywhere quickly especially during harvest time when tractors rule the road. That is what really attracts us to the place. Peaceful and yet a couple of hours away from the city. We keep looking on Rightmove and there is certainly low inventory right now.

Get on the lists of the local agents , stuff doesn't always make it to right Move

Ballantyne might have some new build plots on the north snd east broom land sites

Hi I'm after the same information also actually . My partner and I are in same boat. Moving from Ireland we hope to kelso as we just literally googled that area. Did u make the move ??

mandajmo · 05/02/2022 19:24

Kelso is really friendly and welcomes people from all over the UK and indeed the world. There is a great GP surgery, small cottage hospital and brilliant primary schools. There are new houses being developed and generally regular houses coming up for sale. Renting is more difficult just now.

Brigetterose · 06/02/2022 10:12

Oh thanks a million for the reply. Yeah we just wanted to try renting first to see if we like it before settling proper lol. We have a camper so will head over in it to the Scottish Borders and see how it goes but it looks gorgeous on YouTube. Can't wait. Thanks again

I know this is an old post but some more recent replies. One thing to consider is if you have dc Wallaceneuk is an absolute trek to any of the schools especially the high. The 2 primaries are in very close proximity to each other so even the closer (edenside) is a fair distance from Wallaceneuk which is on the outskirts at the very opposite end of the town to the schools.

I know it's an old post, but hope you guys will see it. Looks like moving to Kelso is popular....we are considering doing the same.
My question is the High School. I've looked everywhere for reviews etc but can't find much at all. What us the local view on it please? Is it a good option?
Thanks

It scores quite high in the rankings

Yes, we moved here in October 2023 and cannot say enough good things about the area. It has everything we want with the exception of a railway station but that would change the place completely.

Lots of friendly people, live music and activities. The health centre and local hospital have been first class.

Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.
