Changing schools during holidays

user22222 · 21/07/2021 16:36

Is this possible?

We are moving home mid summer holidays and our new catchment school is obviously closed due to the holidays.

Can't get in touch with either schools just now.

Does anyone know any other options?

Thanks

Think its done through the council so I'd contact your local council about it

We often get calls at school on the first day back for staff due to moves during the summer. Then a surprise child added to the register by the next morning.

Contact education dept at council with your new address

Contact education department to start the ball rolling but also email school explaining you are moving into area during the break and have contact education department regarding a place (copy in head's direct email if you can find it) .
Whilst schools are closed and staff are supposed to be on holiday, a lot of staff do check emails now and again.
Even if they don't respond, at least they know your child is joining and that you'll be in touch on that first day back

The school will be open for at least one inservice day before term starts. Check what that day is for your authority on the council’s website and contact the school office on that day. If there is space then there will be no issue with starting on the first day of term.

Contact the local authority. But surely did you not foresee this and think about making enquiries earlier?

I would imagine there are numerous reasons why OP may not have foreseen this.

Move may have been planned for later in the Autumn, but date has been brought forward
Move may have been an entirely last minute decision (again for a multitude of reasons, from an expected job opportunity to a relationship breakdown)

The actual reason for the move is immaterial to the OPs query.

Definitely get in touch with the local education department, they will tell you if the school has places available.

Also cc in the headteacher, they may respond the week before the schools go back if not before.

Email addresses should be on the council website.
