I'd try to rebook from an English airport. Scottish airports have warned SG that business will be lost to English Airport and their is no guarantee that it will return.

This is my worry

That we will wind up really cut off again here in Scotland

So many links to the outside world lost

Perfect example of why Level zero is not normal.

My sister, her DH and 2 teenage kids coming up next week. Staying with my parents. Legally I can't go with my DH and 3 Teenagers to see them all, all that's 11 and Queen Nicola says only 10.

Will I be sticking to Queen Nicola's rule? What do you think...

latissimusdorsi · 21/07/2021 23:13

Why on earth do we have level zero?????
Surely the 1st level when some restrictions are introduced is 1🤷🏼‍♀️
Saw someone on main uk news last week trying to explain what moving to level zero meant and the interviewer was a bit WTF

WouldBeGood · 22/07/2021 00:23

If I get Covid type symptoms I’m going to treat it exactly like any other virus I might get. Look after my boy as best I can. Minimise contact otherwise.

I am a bit pissed. Been to Shakespeare. Lovely but can’t be arsed with the Covid bollocks. That’s one of his little known plays.

Exactly! This is what we said when they were introduced. Initially tier zero was for when there were 1 or 2 cases per 100,000 (ok, we're not there) but there are still so many restrictions that we all have to look them up! That's not zero anything. Maybe there could be some guidance or recommendations at zero, to distinguish it from not being on a scale at all - but to have such a complicated set of legal restrictions is bonkers. DH went to a pub with 4 mates yesterday for dinner and they weren't allowed to sit inside as they were more than 4 households (luckily, they didn't want to...).
TheGenealogist · 22/07/2021 08:47

It is not "no restrictions" when I can't go to my mum and dad's house when my sister and her family are there. Considering sister lives a long way away and we only see her and her family a couple of times a year, it's important that we visit. (And we will, even though Queen Nicola says no).

The very fact that they need to have a discussion about "beyond level 0" shows just how ridiculous it all is. Given the way in which they have been easing so slowly, the current levels in England with very few limits on social gathering and no masks is about Level -78.

titsintiers · 22/07/2021 08:54

Most people I know haven't a clue about the rules because they are so bloody complicated and change all the time. I imagine it's the case for most people generally.

Enjoy seeing your sister @TheGenealogist, I would be doing the same in your shoes.

ResilienceWanker · 22/07/2021 09:06

Yes. Even "beyond zero" isn't no restrictions, with, (as far as we know) masks indoors, contact isolation even if fully jabbed until getting a negative test, recommendations to work from home, required blended learning in unis and so on. Not sure when we're going to be told about schools? I have no idea at what tier we'll get to the "personal responsibility" stage the rest of the UK is at! That just seems much more proportionate to me... there are still requirements on employers to ensure workers are safe, but everyone else can vary other mitigation depending on varying personal risk, geographical and seasonal changes in virus spread and so on.

I agree - hope you have a great time with your sister and all thegenealogist!

WouldBeGood · 22/07/2021 09:08

Yep, still can’t have meal out, or at home, with DP’s siblings and dc for his significant birthday coming up. Far less a party!

To isolate, or not to isolate, that is the question.

When shall we three delete the app so we can meet again?

Etc, etc Grin

The rest of the UK are in line with Scotland and haven't removed all restrictions..unless you're doing the media favourite and 'the UK' equals England.
GoldenOmber · 22/07/2021 09:46

Not sure when we're going to be told about schools?

The latest Education Recovery Group meeting minutes (from early June) were published yesterday and they had everyone agreeing to start the next school year with the same mitigations as before, and then decide whether to keep them after school had started. wtf.

I guess NS can do what she likes with what they say though as their recommendations for a year of blended learning last year didn’t happen.

Grin Bravo bytheloch and wouldbegood 👏👏. I was trying to think of something like that but my brain is mush!

Yes, you're right. I thought wales and NI were both just keeping masks on public transport/ shops (but not in all the situations Scotland is), but they do both have proposals for some indoor number limits and SD too in some circumstances at the moment. My apologies. Blush And I suppose we don't actually know yet what NS is planning for 9 August so it may be different from what she has "trailled".

they had everyone agreeing to start the next school year with the same mitigations as before, and then decide whether to keep them after school had started.

Oh, what??! So including bubbles and class isolation and whatnot even with all adults being vaccinated? (And vulnerable children/ families with at least one jag, presumably) That's ridiculous! I really, really hope she doesn't go with that. Or at least sets out a clear, manageable and quick exit strategy from it!

Scottishskifun · 22/07/2021 10:54

@starryeyesuprise Wales in 2 weeks is due to remove all numbers limit and no social distancing required. They do keep masks for shops and transport but not for schools.
That's a huge difference to the current information up here.......e.g no info about schools!

latissimusdorsi · 22/07/2021 10:56

If 1metre social distancing remains "beyond level zero" there are loads of things that can't operate normally
Restaurants, bars, cinemas, theatres, sporting events, higher education, work places, tourist attractions like boat trips and steam railways etc

latissimusdorsi · 22/07/2021 11:07

@WouldBeGood

Yep, still can’t have meal out, or at home, with DP’s siblings and dc for his significant birthday coming up. Far less a party!

Just have it at home or find a sympathetic restaurant
DC1 works in cafe/restaurant open during day but not evening
They regularly have groups of 6+ women for lunch obviously from all different households but they just give them a table. They're not bothering anymore
Large groups they split over 2 tables
No- one knows/cares about the rules now
We need to get out there and do things now, we have to have our exit wave in the summer
No point waiting for Autumn/winter and expecting things to be betterHmm

Scottishskifun · 22/07/2021 11:32

Yep exactly this! Even DH loses track of what the rules are and he works in them day in day out as covid response!!!! Generally the SG guidance is also lagging way behind announcements too!

How has this slipped through? Ffs, it was bad enough that England and Wales had announcements before their schools had/have even finished for the summer. If it had been decided already by SG, why wasn’t that communicated?

We cannot go back with the same restrictions in place. Absolutely not different to rest of U.K. children, that’s not acceptable.

WouldBeGood · 22/07/2021 12:06

The masks and self isolating needs to stop in schools.
