Bringing second dose pfizer forward

Hi,

I am having to travel at the end of the month- my second vaccine is booked in for 3 weeks time- just over 8 weeks.

I’ve been wondering if a drop in clinic would give me it this week? I’ll be nearly 6weeks post first. This would mean I’m fully vaccinated for travelling and won’t have to reschedule vaccine for after travel.

I’ve tried online to reschedule but I’m guessing it’s programmed to only show bookings available after 8 weeks, as that’s all I can find!

Has anyone managed this? I’m in greater Glasgow health board.

Don't think they are giving them sooner than 8 weeks

Finfintytint · 06/07/2021 14:26

Pfizer can be three week gap.
Central Mosque in Glasgow were doing walk ins a while back, try there.

Michellexxx · 06/07/2021 14:32

Thanks, I’ve had a look and there are a few walk in centres open over the next few days. I’m guessing it’s worth a shot.. no pun intended.
Would be good to know of anyone who had experience attempting this though!

Our local walk in centres in North Lanarkshire are for those that have gone at least 8 weeks between doses. Maybe others are different

latissimusdorsi · 06/07/2021 14:43

Worth a try at walk-in but don't think they'll be able to process you on the system at the centre if under 8 wks.
Prob need to delay until after your return

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/07/2021 21:50

Are you travelling elsewhere in UK? I was in similar situation but was told that I couldn't get my 2nd vaccine earlier than two weeks, however I could go to a walk-in clinic in England despite living in Scotland. I just needed to get confirmation of the details and ask my GP to update my vaccine record in Scotland.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/07/2021 22:06

I could get my jab earlier than eight weeksBlush!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/07/2021 22:06

FFS - COULDN'T get my jab early!

Morechocmorechoc · 06/07/2021 22:08

Got ours at local GPS. Usually 12 week wait between but I phoned and asked on a day they were doing it and hey presto. 3 weeks to the day

fitflopqueen · 06/07/2021 22:11

DD is in south London and has just had second Pfizer jab after 3 weeks, her BF also has his in same timescale. Think they both did walk in clinics.

Did you go to a walk in centre, or was this over the phone? Have you just had to wait?

No east england

Frazzled2207 · 07/07/2021 19:01

Walk ins round here very quiet and will generally jab you between 3 and 8 weeks post first jab.
You won’t be able to make an appointment for under 8 weeks though.
Go and ask. If they say no try another one. Is definitely possible.

Is that in scotland?

Sorry should have said I’m in England. If no luck in Glasgow consider crossing the border and trying a couple in england
Michellexxx · 07/07/2021 21:32

I tried today(Scotland), and no luck. I could tell the woman wanted to allow it but couldn’t..it was very quiet and half an hour from closing..

Don't suppose you could tell me where the walk ins are for North Lan?

I couldn't find that anywhere! My 1st was at the Ravenscraig but the Time Capsule would be so much easier. I might just use the walk in service for my 2nd one.

shg96 · 09/07/2021 18:33

hello!

I’m in Glasgow too and have been trying to get my 2nd dose as I am moving abroad at the beginning of August. Had no luck so far.

I have tried the mosque, clydebank health centre and barmulloch hub. I went when it’s the end of the day and they still turned me away, very frustrating! I think they’ve all been told it’s an absolute no before 8 weeks. England are offering it at 3 weeks at walk-in clinics, I’m almost tempted to take a trip down to Windsor for it Grin

Keep me updated if you manage it anywhere! I’ll do the same! Grin

Michellexxx · 09/07/2021 20:57

It’s so frustrating! I tried Clydebank and the Allander and there was no chance. The lady at Clydebank did seem a bit tempted, but the guy in the Allander was so dismissive. He told me just to postpone the second dose of I had to, rather than give it early. I also asked about end of the day- and I went 15 mins before closing and he still said they wouldn’t give pre 8weeks.

It’s clinically nonsensical and so inefficient. I’ve too been reading about people getting are after 3w in England and it’s beyond me that we’re so strict here, with such awful rates!

There’s a drop in at Kirkintilloch tomorrow but I’m getting so close to the point where it’s not worth it that I’m not sure if I’ll bother!

DH turned down at 6 weeks in the Borders yesterday. So frustrating that we could have done it in England as we were there last weekend when relatives got it at 5 and 6 weeks respectively. We need it for travel too and I just assumed that we wouldn't be able to get certification if we did it outwith Scotland.

If anyone finds a lenient centre can they post on here!?

1000umbrellas · 09/07/2021 22:26

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo did you do it? What details would you need to take with you to the English centre? How could you get confirmation you'd had it done? I didn't get a piece of paper or anything after having my second one here.

shg96 · 10/07/2021 02:02

So frustrating! I’m going to try the Hydro tomorrow and a few other places. They’ve all clearly been told it’s a no if under 8 weeks. I just think it’s such a waste if they’re going to end up binning vaccines, surely better in someone arm than the bin?! England drop in’s are 21 days +.... so frustrating. Going to keep trying! Will keep you updated! :-)
