Bringing second dose pfizer forward

Hi,

I am having to travel at the end of the month- my second vaccine is booked in for 3 weeks time- just over 8 weeks.

I’ve been wondering if a drop in clinic would give me it this week? I’ll be nearly 6weeks post first. This would mean I’m fully vaccinated for travelling and won’t have to reschedule vaccine for after travel.

I’ve tried online to reschedule but I’m guessing it’s programmed to only show bookings available after 8 weeks, as that’s all I can find!

Has anyone managed this? I’m in greater Glasgow health board.

I’m in Ireland and had exactly 4 weeks between Pfizer jabs. They explained at the first one that it can be given between 17 and 35 days apart.

What is crazy is people demanding and trying to get their 2nd jab early when they are not eligible and not accepting of UK guidelines.

@Scottishskifun post makes sense although I don’t think this thread is about antibody production and protection, this is about trying to work the system to travel abroad!

This article says it all, first hand experience here, I won’t lie some people have been vile!!

This time last year we had no vaccine, we are all very fortunate, the Gov, NHS an army of volunteers are all doing their best!

Anyway just saying!!

I had my first dose of Pfizer on 24th June (more or less 2 weeks ago), and received this text yesterday Shock

If we have any spare doses left at the end of the Pfizer clinic I volunteer at, people are called to come in only if they had their 1st jab 8+ weeks sooner. I'm in England.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/07/2021 22:26

My daughter was told 4 weeks for Pfizer but that’s in England.

Eightweeks · 11/07/2021 06:00

In our clinic we have stopped our end of day spares because of all the abuse and aggression (London) but we still get a steady flow of it throughout the day from people desperate to travel. We’ve heard every reasoning under the sun and it’s really no fun listening, empathising then being told how unreasonable we are when we are only following guidelines. Such a drain on resources.

Disappointing I get that, but If you’re eligible you’d be invited and be able to book.

Wow that's weird. Are d'osés were 5 weeks apart and now just 3 for our teens. We are in France so not really relevant but interesting how different countries are doing it.

Jbck · 11/07/2021 06:44

@shg96 did you show them the NHS message? DD is 4 weeks post 1st today but extremely anxious, DD2 is 12 and was positive 2 weeks ago. DD1 still wary of being in the car with her if windows shut so if I could get her 2nd sooner I would.
None of us contracted it which is good but shes hard to convince, ND 🙁

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/07/2021 12:51

@Eightweeks Disappointing I get that, but If you’re eligible you’d be invited and be able to book. sadly not carers, people living in households with immune compromised people. Basically anyone eligible because of someone else’s medical status won’t be invited and can’t book.

I may have found another avenue for Scots to explore but don't want to post publicly; pm me if you'd like.

I have to say I’m very grateful for all of those working. Trying to get the vaccine doesn’t mean that that isn’t true. Any abuse of staff, in any position, is awful. However, I think stating the govt are doing their best is stretching it a bit. I know for certain that in England there are many places offering the vaccine earlier, as long as the person accepts own risk. That is not happening in Scotland where minutiae management is still taking place.

We have been in this position for a long time and those most vulnerable are vaccinated and able to travel much more freely than those who weren’t in as much risk. I don’t have any flexibility on travelling at all and am now at will of an arguably political decision re vaccines. I have a family member in Australia who received their first dose after me, but is now fully vaccinated before I am.

It is incredible frustrating and it isn’t black and white, and we’re allowed to feel frustrated and upset by this.
