Swimming pools with flumes/fun pools

Are there any in central Scotland? Having spent the week in Whinfell Centre Parcs the kids are dying to go somewhere with water rides, wave machines etc. I remember going somewhere as a kid but don’t recall where it was! Leith Waterworld sadly gone now and of course the flumes at the Commie are sorely missed! Any ideas?

WHEC changing was the worst ever. I think I ended up in the toilets a few times as a teenager to at least get underwear on.

thebattleofschrutefarms · 06/07/2021 09:35

@hilbil21

I've not been, but have been recommended On-X in Linwood for flumes.
I've heard this is good.

Been to the Time Capsule recently, was good fun.

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 06/07/2021 10:03

Hamilton water Palace only have the pirate ship open for short periods of the day and its a pita to get a slot, all the other things bar main pool are shut cos of covid Hmm

Wasn't at on-x but the other one in paisley had its flume shut again cos of covid so would thing on-x would be closed off too

GrandPrismatic · 06/07/2021 10:10

Urgh I feel like “cos COVID” is the standard excuse for closing everything these days. I dont believe it is cos COViD at all…

It’s a disgrace that there are so few pools for kids. Leith Waterworld was fab and now the capital city has not one pool for kids’ leisure swimming. Angry

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 06/07/2021 10:21

yeah Olympia in Dundee still hasnt fully reopened, they must be losing so much money now its the school holidays! Its open for lane swimming and lessons (before the holidays), but nothing else, the rest of the pool is just sitting there. We're hoping it changes once the furlough scheme ends, but that's still the end of Sept before that happens in scotland apparently!

Weve been going to private pools, but its really expensive, and they dont have flumes etc but DS is too young for all that anyway.

walkoflifewoohoo · 06/07/2021 10:35

Is the Livingston one Xcite please?

ElephantOfRisk · 06/07/2021 10:49

Outside of centerparcs, the best pool for features we went to was here:

www.duinrell.com/tiki-pool

ElephantOfRisk · 06/07/2021 10:50

and yes to the 'cos covid constant excuses - really what is the covid risk of a waterslide?

walkoflifewoohoo · 06/07/2021 10:57

I think Duinrell might be a bit far for the OP Grin

Feckitimbuggard · 06/07/2021 10:57

Greenock has flumes, a lazy river, wave machine and a good toddler area but not sure if it's all open yet

GrandPrismatic · 06/07/2021 11:00

I was VERY excited when I opened that link…it took me a minute to raise it was slightly outside of my driving range 😁. It does look brilliant though…I might look into that for a trip post COVID (if there ever is a post COVID!)

Oh yes, sorry, I meant to post that it wasn't in the UK - I guess I was being aspirational in what we could have here. Wouldn't it be amazing to have something like that here (and with people who understand how to queue..)

We went for a holiday there when ours were about 7 ish. Took the Ferry from Hull, i'd make sure your DC meet the height requirements for stuff before you go, otherwise they had a rule about having to wear armbands regardless of swimming ability. It's also an easy cycle to the beach.

AlphabetAerobics · 06/07/2021 11:49

I've done Duinrell - it's amazing - ferry from Newcastle too.

Perth pool had their underground engine room flooded last summer when we had that enormous storm. So it's properly fucked, not just Covid fucked.

Otoh, no great shakes - truly the dirtiest pool I've ever visited as an adult. Changing rooms are mixed, stink of piss and there was actually someone pissing on the floor in the cubicle next to us.

I have never seen such large tattoos in public. A fascinating anthropological outing.

Ew

Bluecheck679 · 06/07/2021 14:12

Dunbar only doing lanes and "family tank" swims just now due to covid - waves/slides etc all taped off Sad

Finfintytint · 06/07/2021 14:18

@GrandPrismatic

Oooh Perth looks great but looks like it is closed for maintenance for the foreseeable. Will check out Dunbar and the Time Capsule! Anyone been to them recently?
Time Capsule was very busy at the weekend. Long queue. I’d try to stick to weekdays if you can.
charliebrown59 · 06/07/2021 16:42

Had a lovely time on log flume and wave machine pool in England this weekend - wonder why Dunbar is taped off?

Maybe it'll change soon, or aug 9 - perhaps worth a call.

InTheCludgie · 06/07/2021 21:03

GrandPrismatic if you get the chance to visit Duinrell then definitely go for it, the pool blows anything Scotland can offer right out of the water (No pun intended!)

Doboopedoo · 06/07/2021 21:42

The Mariner Centre in Falkirk - both the wave machine and biggest slide (the frog) currently not operations cos COVID.

mondaywine · 06/07/2021 22:43

I think that Dunbar are opening flumes and waves for some sessions during summer. Calling them open swim sessions.

Hotelhelp · 06/07/2021 22:46

OP get yourself to Villages Nature Paris in Paris (obv). The pool is amazing for kids!

Time Capsule is the only one I can think of or The Waterfront at Greenock but are these pools open atm? Our local is just boring old lane swimming.

thebattleofschrutefarms · 07/07/2021 07:28

Time Capsule was very busy at the weekend. Long queue. I’d try to stick to weekdays if you can.

The queue is people waiting for the previous session to end and the next one to start, it's pre-booking only with a limit on people allowed in. Nice and quiet once you're in and spread out.

Finfintytint · 07/07/2021 07:47

Oh, didn’t know that, just saw the queues. Was working in the car park!

HarrisMcCoo · 14/07/2021 19:00

Mariner Centre newly refurbished. You need to book in advance.
