Swimming pools with flumes/fun pools

Are there any in central Scotland? Having spent the week in Whinfell Centre Parcs the kids are dying to go somewhere with water rides, wave machines etc. I remember going somewhere as a kid but don’t recall where it was! Leith Waterworld sadly gone now and of course the flumes at the Commie are sorely missed! Any ideas?

The Time Capsule in Coatbridge? I haven’t been in a long long time but it seems to still be there.

rookiemere · 05/07/2021 07:03

Dunbar swimming pool has a wave machine and I think a couple of flumes. Obviously it's not Center Parcs but DS and his pals used to enjoy it when younger. I think there's also something at Livingston or Glasgow.

FuckingHateRats · 05/07/2021 07:06

Yeah, Dunbar. I'm sure Perth has a couple of flumes and a wave machine. And a wee outdoor pool?

HappyBirthdayMrPresident · 05/07/2021 07:11

Yep definitely the time capsule in Coatbridge

GrandPrismatic · 05/07/2021 07:20

Oooh Perth looks great but looks like it is closed for maintenance for the foreseeable. Will check out Dunbar and the Time Capsule! Anyone been to them recently?

There’s one at Livingston.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/07/2021 08:51

The time capsule is the main one for that. When they built the new pool in Stirling they didn't put in slides but instead did inflatable sessions. Not the same at all. Perth was good, think there is one in Dundee too?

Inverness pool is fab but obviously further to go.

Nothing beats centerparcs though.

Why are there so few of these pools around.
I am sure they are really popular. None left within easy driving distance of our city. Sad the Swindon one closed last year.

I spoke to the Head of the leisure people about our local one and they said they cost too much to run. They've gone through at least two sets of inflatable type things in the same period so I guess that wasn't cheap either.

As we can see from this thread, decent slides will bring in people to use them.

AlexaIWillNeverSayDucking · 05/07/2021 09:57

Burntisland has one, and the Mariner centre in Falkirk is good for littler ones. Dundee has great flumes as well, it is shocking that there isn't one in Edinburgh.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/07/2021 10:05

The pool in alloa used to have a couple as well but I think that has closed down.

When my DC were young we went swimming most weekends but it's funny how you forget what is where. Sometimes they just liked a plain pool though, or the one at Stirling uni used to let them put down weighted hoops to swim through etc

It's such a good exercise and good for family time or fun with friends it's such a shame that they seem to be in decline.

Also just remembered that the pool in Grangemouth has a few decent slides.

Craig Tara Haven site has a great pool complex!!

emmathedilemma · 05/07/2021 12:37

Are they old enough for Aquadash? It says age 6+ but having been I'd say 9-10+ is probably more appropriate, i think smaller ones would struggle, particularly if there's bigger more boisterous kids in the same session. It's a pity they don't do sessions by age group really.

Waterworld was the best! The stingray at the commie! Loved those and remember great ones at Ayr too.

GrandPrismatic · 05/07/2021 12:44

Too little for the aqua dash unfortunately! Although I quite fancy a go on that myself…Grin

It was brutal @GrandPrismatic fun at the time but sore on the muscles for several days after!!

BingBongToTheMoon · 05/07/2021 16:03

The Magnum in Irvine was brilliant.
It’s gone now too.

Icannever · 05/07/2021 22:24

Dundee pool is great but they haven’t reopened any fun stuff since the first lockdown sadly

Temp023 · 05/07/2021 22:25

Dundee has a pool with slides etc.

The Magnum is gone?!??
ssd · 05/07/2021 22:31

Just googled, it closed in 2017. What a shame, went swimming and ice skating there often back in the day.

Invisimamma · 05/07/2021 22:34

Nothing that I know of on the scale of centre parcs but...

Mariner centre has a great wave machine but no flumes. Grangemouth has flumes but only a lengths pool.

Hamilton water Palace has lazy river, pirate boat and flumes but not sure if they've reopened after covid.

Livingston has a lazy river and flumes.

Dunbar has flumes and waves. Perth is good too, my kids love the outdoor pool.

Craig Tara pool is amazing, but no day passes at the moment it's staying guests only.

Namechangeforthis88 · 06/07/2021 08:19

They used to put up an inflatable slide for a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon at Wester Hailes Education Centre. Don't even know if that's open! Even pre-covid you'd have to ring to find out what's going on with it.

GrandPrismatic · 06/07/2021 08:34

I remember going to the WHEC when I was wee! The kiddies pool was great…i remember there being a slide in the middle of it. I also remember being horrified at the changing rooms which were about 3 feet high with no doors! Always had to take a spare towel and balance my shoes on either side at the top to make a makeshift door. Fortunately I have no such inhibitions these days 😁. But yes…not quite Center Parcs scale!

I've not been, but have been recommended On-X in Linwood for flumes.
