Edinburgh bars

I've booked a wee trip to Edinburgh for DD and I to celebrate her 18th birthday. I was hoping to take her to Bramble and Panda and Sons for cocktails but both are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays which is when we're there... can I have your suggestions for other places to take her? We'll be staying on Queen St so happy to walk to old town, Stockbridge etc. Thanks!

Tiger Lily
Le Monde
The Dome
Brewhemia
Bar Prince at the Balmoral
Peacock Alley at the Caledonian (Waldorf Astoria)
Roseleaf at Leith (not sure if they're open, why on earth don't people put this on the homepage of their website?!?)

I came on to post Bramble and Panda and Son. My favourites in Edinburgh. I was also going to suggest Dragonfly but it's closed Monday and Tuesday too. I was in Edinburgh yesterday with two of my DDs (they wanted to visit StJames Quarter) and headed to Rose St for lunch. The secret garden at the back of The Dome looked, according to DD4, very Instagramable.

Looks like lots of the wee "speakeasy" types which I love might be closed . The new Malmaison of St Andrew's Sq might be a shout as their cocktail menu is usually pretty decent and their bar staff well trained in mixology - it's not Slug and Lettuce premixed stuff out of a carton idea.

Voodoo Rooms and Dragonfly both used to be good for cocktails. Same with Indigo Yard. Haven’t actually been to them in a while though due to babies and lockdown

Bon vivant, under the stairs, the new lillet one at at James, the refinery, copper blossom

Groovee · 01/07/2021 10:55

Badger and co? I think it's in Castle Street.

Dd likes the cocktails in Wetherspoons as you get a jug with a straw 😂. She is a student. So they are cheap.

Copper Blossom is often where friends start their night outs.

Rose Street Gardens looks brilliant. I fancy going there.

GrandColombier · 01/07/2021 11:20

Voodoo is usually a firm favourite but isn't great after lockdown. 0 atmosphere and very reduced menu. I really hope it comes back to normal.

I went there a couple of weeks ago and the best thing about it was the bathroom! It was flat and expensive and the paper menu said check out online menu and nothing on it was available 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you, some places I'd forgotten about (love Indigo Yard! And have been to Brewhemia too) and some new places to try - will get googling to see if they are all open!

Loving the sound of Malmaison and the garden at the Dome!

Depending on when you're visiting, there's a new cocktail bar opening in a couple of weeks at the shore (where Sofi's used to be) called The Three Marys which looks nice

Invisimamma · 01/07/2021 20:06

Hoot the redeemer on Hanover St, its hidden away, very quirky. By the same company as Panda and Sons. It was open 7 days but unsure about post covid opening hours.

Superjaggy · 01/07/2021 22:30

Ohhhh Hoot the Redeemer looks marvellous! DD will love the idea of boozy ice cream.

I've spent several hours looking at websites, emailing for reservations where there's no online booking etc - it's quite a lot of work for a 2 day trip Grin. Loads more places closed Monday Tuesday and Under the Stairs is only Thursday to Sunday...

However we've now got tables for drinks or food at Indigo Yard and Bon Vivant and I've emailed Hoot.

Thanks everyone Smile

If you are staying on queen st then Treacle on broughton street is amazing for cocktails!

Purplealienpuke · 01/07/2021 23:08

I live in Edinburgh... I haven't heard of half these places 🤣🤣 guess I'm not a trendy eh? 🤣🤣

Superjaggy · 02/07/2021 19:03

Treacle looks great! But their booking system isn't working. Might wander along anyway.

I am far from being a trendy - but quite short sighted so won't spot any looks of disdain Wink

Candy Bar on George St. Fun cocktails & bar bites. Great fun for an 18yr old!

trulyconfuseddotcom · 02/07/2021 19:55

I like drinks at the Bon Vivant followed by Mexican food and margaritas across the road at El Cartel.
