Dundee restaurants

Dh and I will be spending a Saturday night in Dundee in a few weeks. Staying in the QuaySide Hotel and going to the V&A the next day.

Any ideas for good restaurants. Just to be awkward I am vegan and gluten free (dh eats meat) so something like thai or curry would be good but open to other suggestions.

There's a Thai restaurant just along from the V&A called Rama. Its delicious. For excellent vegan food there's a Mexican called Loco Ritas. There's also a Caribbean/African place just across from The Apex hotel called Gidi. There's definitely vegetarian so you'd need to double check if its also vegan. There a veg stew which i always have that I'm sure would be vegan. Dundee has a tonne of brilliant restaurants.

We enjoyed the Medina Bar and Grill but if you give them a call they'll be able to help.

If you are happy with take away Wee Mexico is really lovely and does many options for dietary options.

Tahini is a Lebanese tapas style food. They are very accommodating. Food is excellent.

Second Gidi Grill. It’s fabulous.

Plump82 · 24/06/2021 18:30

I was recommended Tahini on here and unfortunately really didnt like it. And Lebanese food is one of my favourites.
Gidis also does very good cocktails but you'll need to book as its a busy place.

I love the dim sum place above the Chinese supermarket but I'm not sure that would work with your limitations.

Lidlfix · 24/06/2021 21:31

Gallery 48 for Tapas is lovely and has vegan dishes. The Flame Tree cafe is vegan and lovely but not for dinner. Draffens speak easy cocktail bar is lovely and trying to find it is part of the fun .

Oh lots of great ideas here, thank you.

We went to an amazing Thai the last time we were in Dundee which was a loooong time ago. So we might go for that, but some of the others look great and we'll check them out.

I second Rama Thai, absolutely beautiful food. Enjoy!

Notthisnotthat · 28/06/2021 22:01

The Selkie is really lovely. And not too far a walk. I don't rate Tahini either, I've been twice and found the dishes bland and uninspiring.

Oshibori is worth a look...tasty Japanese food and a good choice for vegan/ meat eaters ( sushi/ sashimi/ noodles/curries )
V central - on Nethergate, so only 5 min walk from hotel
been a few times whilst visiting Ds at Uni...he loves the food as does his gf who is vegan

Breathmiller · 30/06/2021 14:43

Thanks everyone.

That Japanese place looks amazing and we mightdo it naither time. But I think with our fussiness we will both get most choice at the Thai. And we both love Thai. I should probably book actually.

We might look at the other places for lunch too. Really looking forward to it now.

I second oshiboro. The food is fantastic although when we went if was super quiet so the ambience wasn't amazing but it is decorated nicely. And honestly food..yummy

Horehound · 30/06/2021 14:46

Oh and Mal Maison is really nice too!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 30/06/2021 15:23

We really don't rate Oshibori, been in a few times, but their service is abysmal. Food is OK, but expensive.

Rama is pretty good, MaÅ› on the Perth Road is excellent, but I'm not sure what their allergy stuff is like. Porters in city Quay is also great. Great food and amazing service!

Horehound · 30/06/2021 15:26

Oh we had good service although this was over 2 years ago.
Tayberry in brought ferry is lovely

Breathmiller · 12/07/2021 14:39

Thanks everyone who answered. We had no problem finding food. Everywhere was so welcoming and accommoding. We ate so well.
