What does this mean for both the Scotland and England players from Friday?

We could potentially end up with most of the team having to isolate Shock

The English players are isolating just as a precaution apparently

This makes no sense, why would they isolate as a precaution, especially as no one from Scotland's team is doing the same. Confused
Whataboutme21 · 21/06/2021 19:16

I agree it makes no sense. Think the English players were hugging Gilmour at end of game so they’re just being extra careful but I don’t get why other Scotland players are not classed as close contacts Confused

Because, football.
mondaywine · 21/06/2021 19:43

Yet we had a learning assistants have to isolate as she spoke to a child outside. Schools are forced to isolate, infuriating parents and making us public enemy number one yet again. This has mad me angrier than I thought it would. Treat us all the same or watch people stop following guidance completely. And I say this as a SNP voter.

SilenceOfTheNaans · 21/06/2021 19:44

The 2 English players are his team mates so entirely possible he was eating with them and spent more time in closer quarters with them.

Still feels off that no other Scotland players have been impacted though.

monday It will be English guidance they are meant to be following not Scottish so not really anything to do with SNP I wouldn't think?

It feels off because it's complete nonsense that the rest are fine to carry on. I understand how devastating this would be for the Scottish team, but surely they realise how this will look to the general public? Even more so now 2 opposition players are isolating. Confused

mondaywine · 21/06/2021 20:46

My comment is around the fact that people often complain that SNP voters are following guidance/ rules blindly and not criticising. I have a real issue with the fact the Nicola Sturgeon is treating football differently. Where is the criticism of huge crowds, etc?

Soulstirring · 21/06/2021 20:51

He’s the one that walked out of the tunnel spitting everywhere?

But schools cost money and football makes it.

Come on! This is the Tories, why is anyone even slightly surprised by this?

AutoGroup · 21/06/2021 20:59

Yes, football makes the money that pays for the schools....Premiership alone contributes £6bn a year in tax. Awful

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 21:48

I love the football. And think the isolations are ridiculous.

And you can’t have one rule for important people and another for plebs.

ssd · 21/06/2021 22:04

I feel sorry for the boy. Hes only 20, he must be totally gutted.

ssd · 21/06/2021 22:04

Must be asymptomatic too. So unlucky.

StarryEyeSurprise · 21/06/2021 22:09

I feel really sorry for him too. He'll be absolutely gutted and probably feels guilty even though he shouldn't . Press having a field day as would be expected.

ramonaquimby · 21/06/2021 22:13

What a fucking joke
Makes an utter mockery of whole year groups having to isolate for since Sept (yes I know things got better and tighter) My kids missed so much face to face teaching because of very tenuous ‘contacts’ when they were at school
I am so done
Bloody hate football to start with!!

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 22:13

I feel sorry for him, but the rules are ridiculous.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 22:15

I love football but I agree with you @ramonaquimby (I loved the book too 😃)

It’s time they stopped this pish. Enough is enough

PrincessScarlett · 21/06/2021 22:25

This is utterly crazy. My local school has 2 whole year groups self isolating because of a couple of positive covid tests and yet footballers are supposedly exempt from the covid rules.

Surely the Scottish team are a bubble, staying together, eating together, socialising together, in an enclosed dressing room together. How on earth can they claim there has been no close contact?

ssd · 21/06/2021 23:25

We won't know the reason they are saying that until we're told. If we're told.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 23:44

They’re saying it to keep the football going

ssd · 21/06/2021 23:50

I dont know who's saying what though. Although i haven't been following it at all. I just feel sorry for the boy.

It doesn't make much sense. I don't see how the two English players would have had more close prolonged contact with him than his team mates.
myrtleWilson · 22/06/2021 01:15

I'm assuming that UEFA have agreed a covid protocol with all host countries. Presumably at a national level, each country will have its own covid rules which won't necessarily match up. Hence a UEFA wide rule for all games/teams/bubbles under their umbrella. So it may not be a case of bypassing local rules just that those rules are in abeyance and superseded by new ones. The optics are still off but this may be the background
