Do you think it will mostly centre around the fan zone decision or are we likely to see Edinburgh go into tier 3?

theotherfossilsister · 08/06/2021 08:56

Think we'll go into tier three sadly. Hope it won't be for long though.

Furbs · 08/06/2021 09:07

Fingers crossed it won't be for too long if it happens.

We actually aren't in Edinburgh anymore but family and work is. Whilst still WFH it has been nice to visit the office a few times. I don't want to go back to not seeing my parents 😞

It would be huge if Edinburgh (or anywhere else) went into tier 3, because that would then (to my knowledge) be the only part of the UK actually moving backwards rather than just pausing progress. Given the lack of pressure on hospitalisations and the very strong evidence that the vaccines are de-risking COVID this would be quite a controversial move. But having said that, with the SG who can tell what they're going to do? 🤷‍♀️

Sootess · 08/06/2021 09:24

Are the Edinburgh cases not mainly linked to schools though? I'm not sure how tier 3 would make any difference.

ssd · 08/06/2021 09:25

Isn't east Renfrewshire worse than Edinburgh?

ssd · 08/06/2021 09:26

I'd still see them, in the garden.
IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/06/2021 09:26

I don't think places will go up but probably just stay the same. This fanzone seems to be causing so much backlash especially given the nursery and p7 transitions. It will be interesting to see how this plays out

ResilienceWanker · 08/06/2021 10:12

Urgh. No, I really hope they don't start moving people back up. Especially if the football stuff still then goes ahead. That would be just so unfair. Wish they'd put a bit more effort into vaccines in Edinburgh (and Glasgow) though. I know the logistics must be tricky given the population, and the army are helping out now, but a bit of thinking outside the "huge hubs miles from where you live, at a random time that we may or may not tell you" box would be nice.

BingBongToTheMoon · 08/06/2021 10:26

I think Ayrshire will be screwed.
I know of cases within 26 schools & nurseries.
It’s awful.

Callisto1 · 08/06/2021 10:30

I didn't even know they were planing an event for 6000 people when cases are rising and schools are shutting. Ugh some priorities they have...Angry

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/06/2021 10:33

This is the knife edge point I think. They can't pull the fanzone or the euros without huge issues from some really influencial football bodies but if they don't regular people will be so angry missing their kids milestones.

It begs the question that if we can sack it all off for a big even what the fuck have we been doing the last year and a bit

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/06/2021 10:33

Event*

backaftera2yearbreak · 08/06/2021 10:53

There are places with higher cases than Edinburgh so she would have to all them back into level 3 too. Paise yes. Backwards...I’m not sure she will.

backaftera2yearbreak · 08/06/2021 10:55

*pause not praise

ssd · 08/06/2021 11:02

But surely the fanzone is outside eg.not comparable with schools etc

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/06/2021 11:08

I get what you are saying @ssd but they aren't even allowing nursery graduations with parents in attendance outside. Blanket ban on them.

Furbs · 08/06/2021 11:20

I can see why the fan zone would go ahead but for the sake of surrounding hospitality businesses I really hope they don't allow alcohol.

SSD I will probably still meet them for walk/garden if it comes to it as the kids will be there anyway sometimes.

Hopefully it won't come to it but I'm feeling flat today, it seems never-ending.

It’s as if school restrictions have been forgotten- includes the advisory, not mandatory, advice about wearing masks outside the school gates off council premises. (Why are parents still doing this, btw? It’s something the Swinneybot dropped into one of his speeches. ) We all wanted our children to remain in school once back/respect the staff, so we all obeyed, yet restrictions continue. Football fans rampaged through a city, a sort of punishment ensued in retaining level 3 which was not justified for the majority of city residents.

There’s now absolutely no justification for anywhere moving up, whilst the Euro fan zone is hosted. If Edinburgh is adjusted, it’s time to say no and kick back (no pun intended) against the government. Tourism and business across the city needs support, not further restrictions.
I didn’t even realise there was an update. I stopped listening a very long time ago.

Bytheloch · 08/06/2021 11:42

It is- why can’t parents watch a sports day? Why can’t parents visit a pre school nursery inside, wearing a mask, distancing etc? Staggered appointments across the week for P1 visits to classroom etc? Same again for P7? They’re already in bubbles, staggered visits and perhaps outdoor presentations if it can only be done in numbers. There’s never going be up to 3,000 parents watching a sports day, is there?
Callisto1 · 08/06/2021 13:06

@ssd outside events are safer for sure. But how are all these people going to get there? Will they be spaced out like we have to be when we sit outside in a cafe?

Everyone I know wears masks for school pick up and drop off even though it's outside, because we are told to be careful to keep the virus out of schools. And I don't mind doing it. But then being told it's fine to cram a mass of people into some outdoor space cause football just makes me rage.

Furbs · 08/06/2021 13:09

It is supposedly to be socially distanced and table service only with the football being switched off if there is mass celebration. How it works in reality is anyone's guess. People with a drink in them celebrating is going to be difficult to control in the scale 😳

OP posts:
ResilienceWanker · 08/06/2021 13:15

football being switched off if there is mass celebration.

Really?! Like the naughty step for drunk people? "I'm going to take away your screen and you sit there for a bit and think about what you've done, and when you've calmed down you can have it back again...". Yup. Can't see that going badly wrong at all.

Furbs · 08/06/2021 13:17

Yep, a banner is to be aired saying it will only be switched back on once people return to their seats. Doesn't fill me with confidence tbh.

@Callisto1 keep the virus out of schools
That's a joke at the moment!

Oh my God. Drunk football fans being denied the right to see the game...There'll be riots.
