Does anyone know if the kids will get results from their 'non exam' exams before the end of term?
My child is doing Nat5 proper timetabled exams back to back next few weeks but obviously marked by their teachers.

Results are to be 100% this exam not the continual assessment as we had been told. More a test of stamina than their knowledge I think.
Wondering if they will get told before results forwarded to sqa for certification.
Would certainly be an advantage of this system to not have to wait till August.

Probably depends on the school tbh
Ours is doing a series of assessments in bite sized chunks and will get a working grade in May and mid June before final grades are submitted to SQA. Dont know if that means we find out beforehand what the grade will be

ItsLikeSputnik · 28/04/2021 19:32

Our school has said that kids will get a working grade in May (although their assessments have already started so what’s the point?). They will then send home a note of their final grades on 21st June before they are submitted to the SQA, who may still change them.
With two assessments last week and four this week my teen is knackered already and she has 3 more weeks of this to go Sad

happydaysarecomingsoon · 28/04/2021 20:26

Yes it mad. We got the timetable just before Easter. It's assessing their endurance as they have decided to test each subject with 2 papers on the same day with half hour between. She has one week with 5 subjects so 10 exam papers!
She will be knackered. Madness.

We have been told these will be 100% grade and prelims and the multitude of tests they did from August 2020 will not count even though we were told they would.

Well it is what it is. They just need to get through them but each school seems to be making their own rules up.
They are mostly being sat in the gym hall with masks on. But they aren't exams they are assessments!

It would be good to get results before break. It will soften the blow a bit I think.
The kids results will be belittled anyway regardless as they media will say they didn't do exams. This year has really been rubbish for them.

Our assessments are being done in class time, in class, but under exam conditions. The teachers have tried to break them down into more manageable chunks rather than full on exam papers, but it’s not really working. For example, rather than sitting two papers for Nat5 History, DD is now doing five assessments!
It’s been an impossibly difficult year for the kids. If we can get to summer with no major meltdowns, I’ll be delighted.

WeAllHaveWings · 28/04/2021 23:11

We have been told they will give them their provisional results that are being submitted to the sqa at the end of June, so they will know before the summer break.

Ds will get a report with latest working grades at the end of this week. 🤞🏼

WeAllHaveWings · 28/04/2021 23:17

They will then send home a note of their final grades on 21st June before they are submitted to the SQA, who may still change them.

The sqa site says they will be assurance checking in schools/la/sqa before the results are submitted to them on the 25th. The only changes after this date will be if there is an admin error.

happydaysarecomingsoon · 29/04/2021 09:22

@WeAllHaveWings that's interesting. Hopefully all schools will give the results. Although it's seems each school making their own rules.

We've also been told we'll be given the higher grades before the schools break up at the end of June. I fully expect they will be sent out by e mail 5 minutes before the school closes for the holidays.

This shows what is happening at each stage. Looks like all learners should be told their provisional grades.

@applesandpears33 this is so true. Imagine if they sent out a few days before all the dramas!
I'm taking my child out of school early so she will miss the last day .
Imagine she doesn't get hers then as not in. She will be raging.

happydaysarecomingsoon · 29/04/2021 11:56

@WeAllHaveWings thank you. Here's hoping it's followed through. The teachers really have a hell of a job on their hands. They are also going to get the brunt of it and the investigations that will ensue if students not happy with grade. This is maybe why lots of schools are saying final exam is 100% so no appeals

Don't think anyone would wish to be a teacher right now. Ds's maths teacher had to tell at least 1/2 of his Higher maths class they had failed the interim assessment with extremely low marks and they should discuss with their parents whether they should pull out of being assessed for Higher this year and do it over 2 years/in S6 instead.

WeAllHaveWings · 29/04/2021 15:27

and it gets worse.............

ds home from school and nearly a whole English class is getting 0 marks across all their subjects for their interim exams for cheating (photographing and sharing interim assessment papers which were not sat on the same day for every class)

they will still sit their main assessments in May, but won't have evidence from interim assessments as backup evidence

I guess this is why everyone doing the same main assessments at the same time is a better plan

latissimusdorsi · 29/04/2021 16:16

Oh god@ WeAllHaveWings
What a nightmareShock
It all just lacks fairness across the whole cohort of candidates this year

WeAllHaveWings · 29/04/2021 16:30

Ds is ok, not involved in either of them, did ok in maths and not in the English class involved but some of his friends are.

happydaysarecomingsoon · 29/04/2021 17:46

@WeAllHaveWings it's mad and hopefully will have given the kids who shared it a wake up call. Glad your son wasn't in the class involved. There will be kids pulled into this without fully realising the consequences.

This had happened in our school with the class assessments. Not worth the paper they are written on. Not sure why at start of class tests phones aren't placed in box at the front!
Why you would give the test you have done blind to others to benefit anyway is beyond me.

Has anyone given any thought to appealing exam results (if they need to!)?
