Hoping you can help. I live in Scotland and hoping to get away for one or two nights with my children over the summer and would love to go whale or dolphin spotting. Does anyone have any recommendations of where the best chances of seeing them are? Accommodation recommendations greatly received too

Lots of dolphins in the Moray Firth - Inverness, Nairn, Lossiemouth, Buckie areas if that's any good for you.

Chanonry point is pretty reliable and cromarty is nice to spend time in. Sutor creek does ace pizza. Think there might be a whale watching trips place nearby.

Getting on this thread for similar reasons thank you

Thr west coast of Scotland is the best place in the whole of Europe for whale watching. Google whale watching trips but problem with booking in advance is you can't guarantee the weather, or the sightings. Lots of fishermen seeing dolphins and minke whales already this season.

We camped literally on the beach at Aardnanurchan.. Amazing.

We saw LOADS of dolphins in the sea at Aberdeen. There are trips there run on fishing boats. I honestly couldn't believe how many we saw!

I've narrowed it down to gairloch or Oban anybody been to either?

clpsmum · 25/04/2021 19:46

Brilliant spot for dolphin watching, they were so close to shore when we saw them.

Shetland for orcas

tenlittlecygnets · 25/04/2021 21:49

There are dolphin and whale watching trips from Mull - Tobermory - and Ffionport by Iona.

sunnyday1976 · 25/04/2021 22:09

I agree about Chanonry Point. The dolphins came within a few meters of the shore. One was a mother with her calf (think that's the right term!), it was almost as if she was wanting show it off. I'd love to go back, but appreciate we were very lucky!

dementedma · 29/04/2021 19:58

Fort George, anywhere in the Moray Firth
I saw Orcas in Orkney!!!

Head to fortrose/rosemarkie - I think that is chanonry point? We camped at fortrose and was dolphins every day. They were so close, we got better viewing than people on boat trips. Amazing.

Aberdeen is very reliable for dolphins.

One word of warning re Chanonry Point, the parking is dire. Last time I was there it was really busy. Not a big enough car park. I'd try elsewhere.
