Lenzie is much more £££ to live in than Bishopbriggs. Especially Lenzie Academy catchment - Woodilee is split between Lenzie and Kirkintilloch. The price difference between the two is substantial.

Bishopbriggs the issue is making sure you're the right side of the East Dunbartonshire border.

It depends on your income level partly.

We have family who are very happy in Bishopbriggs.

Dc are in primary school currently.

Hi,
Can I ask what you mean by the "right side of the border"? Thanks!

We could manage both financially. Just about. Schools our main focus for moving. As well as a nice area to live in.

The ED/Glasgow border runs along the Auchinairn road - if you're not in ED, then you're not Bishopbriggs catchment, but quite a lot of houses are advertised as "Bishopbriggs" but are not actually in ED.

Lenzie Academy has gone seriously downhill in the past 10 years. The area is still nice enough but people moving for the school have found a lot of issues, bullying, drugs, poor teaching in certain subjects. Its also hugely overcrowded and has been riding on its reputation for way too long imo

If you like the area look also at Kirkintilloch High and St Ninians as if you have a P5 you might be able to get into the denominational primary and then into that too.

TinyGringotts · 22/04/2021 16:45

The whole of Bishopbriggs is in East Dunbartonshire. Both Lenzie Academy and Bishopbriggs Academy are well thought of schools. Houses are more expensive in Lenzie and they're not cheap in Bishopbriggs!!

Both are on the train line in to Glasgow which I think is fab. What would sway it for me is when my kids are bigger and getting home from Glasgow after a night out in a taxi. Bishopbriggs is main road all the way. To get to Lenzie you need to go on country roads.

But it's entirely possible I've overthought this 😁

General chat is that Lenzie's results rely on parents tutoring their kids rather than the teaching being good. Kirkintilloch High is smaller but has a decent reputation for teaching. Less fashionable though.

I really like the feel of Kirkintilloch in general as a place to live.

hemhem · 22/04/2021 16:48

@tinygringotts that's good forward planning there! A lot of older teens get the train into Glasgow for uni as well as nights out. So for them walking safely to and from the station is more of a factor than getting a taxi home I'd say. An uber to Lenzie after a night out is around £15-20 and a private hire about £20-25 so teens wouldn't be doing that every week unless well-off

Krispykremefan · 22/04/2021 18:09

@hemhem I have heard St. Ninians is very good as well. Thanks, will look into it .

EDC have recently changed admission policies for entry to high schools due to over housing.

Priority is now given to siblings and length of time spent at an associated feeder/catchment school so best to be aware of that.

If I was to choose I would go with Bishopbriggs Academy over Lenzie. DH and I both went to Lenzie and when the situation arises about secondary schooling given where we stay we would do Kirkintilloch High as they have a more rounded curriculum offering eg in senior phase they have better links with colleges to do foundation courses at college.
