Anyone else unsure who to vote for?

Used to be a Labour supporter but they don't stand in my constituency (or when they do, they come 5th or 6th). It's between SNP, Lib Dem and Tories (in that order) here. I physically can't vote for the latter two, however I'm not enthusiastic to vote SNP, despite voting for them previously. Greens aren't standing either. I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot but I genuinely don't know what to do. Anyone else in the same situation (not necessarily stuck between the same parties)?

Right....well there are smart/not so smart educated/ill-educated people who vote for all parties.

exactly

SoMuchForSummerLove · 04/05/2021 18:24

I really wish he wouldn't try to deny this for political reasons, it's the bloody truth!

@swiggless

And I wouldn't vote for Alba, either.
Really, why not? I find Alba more palatable than any of the other parties, although I understand if you hate the idea of a possible future independence referndum, you would be afarid of them, even as they are the only party that stands uo for women. So, can you tell us why you rule them out, and what you propose that feminists - or if you prefer, people who agree that women are human - do instead?
WouldBeGood · 04/05/2021 20:14

I do not find Alex Salmond to be a good man in the field of women’s rights.

And they have a host of loopy candidates like the racist tweet boxer and the lawyer with complaints about misappropriation of funds.

titsintiers · 04/05/2021 21:18

Anas Sarwar has performed best in the leadership debates in my view.

WouldBeGood · 04/05/2021 21:38

I quite like him @titsintiers. Positive and not all about the bloody constitution - actual policies!

titsintiers · 04/05/2021 22:34

Me too. Willie Rennie did ok, and Nicola Sturgeon didn't annoy the shite out of me like she usually does tonight.

Patrick Harvie was his usual sanctimonious self though and don't even start me on Tory McTwuntface.

Ahhhhh that feels better now.

Suffolkpunch345 · 05/05/2021 07:46

So basically you are too lazy to research the smaller parties and as a result you’ll vote the SNP who will railroad Scotland into independence, continue with their batshit policies like giving free meds and baby boxes to millionaires ?

Under the SNP Scotland had the highest number of drug deaths in Europe,
the worst attainment levels. 14 years under SNP rule and WE ARE WORSE OFF! What is it that people don’t get about that ?

Your property will go into negative equity as all large businesses will move down south or elsewhere.

Bytheloch · 05/05/2021 08:16

Don’t waste your time @Suffolkpunch345

A long time SNP voter is no different to a Tory voter who cannot see the society we’ve become as a result of a particular party in long term rule. Change is needed, but it will never come whilst folk continue to blindly vote SNP- and they see independence as the only meaningful way of changing things, despite having voted for a party who’ve had 14 years to make a difference🤷‍♀️
Depressing stuff.

Bytheloch · 05/05/2021 08:21

I’m voting tory locally tomorrow, as it’s the only meaningful way to vote against the SNP where I live.
I don’t see it as a vote/endorsement for the Westminster tories, I understand the difference, so I’m voting tactically. I hope so many others do the same tomorrow.

titsintiers · 05/05/2021 08:53

I think they will @Bytheloch

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 05/05/2021 09:33

I already have, Bytheloch. We can but hope.
I didn't vote FOR any of them, I voted against the incumbent.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 05/05/2021 09:41

I don’t see it as a vote/endorsement for the Westminster tories

Doesnt matter how you see it, the Tories headed by their party in Westminster will take it as an endorsement of their damaging and divisive politics

If it contributes to ridding Scotland of the ‘damaging and divisive politics’ of the SNP, then so be it.
StillRailing · 05/05/2021 09:51

I agree with the point about better data on education made earlier.

You can certainly think that, but you did vote for them. It doesn't make any difference what your motivation was, you've endorsed the party that brought us Brexit and Boris Johnson.
OhRene · 05/05/2021 10:35

I'm going to have to hold back the urge to vomit and vote for the one who will beat the SNP.
To be fair, his party is shit but the bloke himself is very effective and does well for his constituents.

We just cannot allow the SNP in here. The area was 77% pro union voting in the bloody neverendum.

namechanging202020 · 05/05/2021 11:18

Can't believe how many are voting Tory!

The tories have never and will never give a shit about Scotland!

Vote for anyone except them!!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 05/05/2021 11:21

I feel the same. I know many aren't happy with the SNP but if you're willing to put your belief system aside when you vote, that can't end well for the country.

Iwouldratherbesailing · 05/05/2021 11:44

Brexit is bad for the country, Tory corruption is bad for the country but that pales into insignificance in comparison with the bankruptcy that independence will bring.

Imagine the NHS with a 20% cut in funding. Imagine schools with a 20% cut in funding.
Imagine the unemployed and pensioners with a 20% cut in benefits. Independence is a whole different level of ‘bad for the country’ to the Tories. But with 80% of independence voters apparently thinking that Scotland is a net contributor to the UK and that the GERS numbers are made up by Westminster it is hard to get the message through to some.

SempreSuiGeneris · 05/05/2021 11:54

If you live in a Tory/SNP constituency then voting Tory in the constituency to block the SNP is NOT voting Tory if you then neutralise it by voting Labour on the List.

The choice is SNP(con)/Tory(list) or Tory(con)/Labour(list). Just the same as for the SNP, the more Constituency seats either the Tories or Labour win the less their List votes count.

Nightmare scenario for the SNP would be losing constituency seats to the Tories / Labour and instead of winning them back on the List having them convert to Alba / Green.

WouldBeGood · 05/05/2021 12:11

Brexit and Boris were bad enough without adding Scexit and Sturgeon.

WouldBeGood · 05/05/2021 12:14

Voting Tory is a tool to try to get rid of the SNP/Green majority. It’s not like they’ll win a majority but hopefully a more mixed Parliament will serve Scotland better.

In my constituency that means voting Tory constituency and Labour list

RaspberryCoulis · 05/05/2021 12:21

And in mine it means the exact opposite - Labour on the constituency vote (it'll be a cold day in hell when Clydebank elect a Conservative MSP, whatever the people of Milngavie do) and then NOT Labour on the regional list. So Conservative or Lib Dem. Yet to decide.

Graffitiqueen · 05/05/2021 12:43

I don't think some of you are getting it. Brexit and Scexit are two cheeks of the same arse. Except scexit would be way more damaging than brexit.

Look at the way brexit is going. Project fear=project reality. Scexit will be the same. Look at the nonsense SNP voters believed in that recent poll.

I see the SNP as a huge huge threat to Scotland's stability and future welfare, much much more so than the tories. So I will vote Tory to attempt to head off that threat.

No way are the tories going to get a majority so feel safe that a vote for them may calm the worst excesses of the SNP.
