Cowdenbeath or Broxburn

Hello! Looking for advice, please....A family member is looking to move from London to one of these towns. Can I please have opinions on what they're like, especially for kids, and having a nice community feel? Thanks very much.

Why? Erm, probably Broxburn. They seem like rather random, far apart locations. Both have nice countryside nearby...

Icannever · 28/03/2021 22:59

Not Cowdenbeath

EachDubh · 29/03/2021 03:02

What are they looking for, expecting? Why these two? I don't know Broxburn but I wouldn't be hurrying to Cowdenbeath but have friends who love it.

WisnaeMe · 29/03/2021 03:38

Broxburn but only just 🌸

EdgedInBlue · 29/03/2021 08:24

I would move to Mordor before choosing either 😂

Seriously though, both are a bit more at the less affluent end of the scale, if not totally deprived. If they are moving from London presumably they could afford a slightly more affluent area?

tabulahrasa · 29/03/2021 09:17

Why just those two? That’s a fairly random two places...

Broxburn is... ok, bit of a weird mix of ex mining town and commuter town. It’s not a “naice” middle class town, but better than some of the ex mining places further out from Edinburgh.

Invisimamma · 29/03/2021 09:35

I'd stay put in London if those were the choices. Quite a random choice as they are very far apart!

If an absolute choice between the two towns it would need to be Broxburn for me. Good links to Edinburgh and access to the rest of West Lothian which is quite pretty. But Broxborn itself is quite a bland wee place.

Cowdenbeath is a quite deprived ex mining town.

blowinahoolie · 29/03/2021 17:10

Cowdenbeath 🤣🤣🤣

blowinahoolie · 29/03/2021 17:11

Zombie town where no one smiles.

How random to move from the great sights of London to.... Cowdenbeath!

WisnaeMe · 29/03/2021 18:34

why are you making this move OP.

bring a brolly and wellies 🤣

Don't really know Broxburn, but wouldn't recommend Cowdenbeath. High street is a mess of closed down and tat shops, secondary school not one of the better ones. There is a small and well used sports centre and swimming pool and the chaps at the recycling centre are very friendly and helpful...but that's about it.

blowinahoolie · 31/03/2021 12:54

Gloryhammer have a lot to say about Cowdenbeath but it's not exactly reliable!

AmadeustheAlpaca · 01/04/2021 10:07

I wouldn’t go to either. South Queensferry or Linlithgow would be my choice for that part of the world.

FionnulaTheCooler · 01/04/2021 10:12

I don't really know Broxburn but I know Cowdenbeath and wouldn't recommend it, for some reason the traffic trying to get through the main part of town is always a nightmare whenever I've been there. I would look at Burntisland instead, its not far away from Cowdenbeath and has a lovely beach and park for young families, although it can get very busy in the summer.
