Good on you for doing something about it. It has already happened with all our Local Authority academies and the girls just use the disabled toilets. It’s awful for boys, too. The toilets are visible from the main corridors so everyone knows if some poor kid is pooping. Just grim

My little one is not yet at school, but I was taken aback to see your post and realise this was a thing!

I did some cursory Googling to learn and found this .... has any legislation been passed to supersede this?

I am trying to keep an open mind to all sides of this argument, but what is dismaying me the most is the idea that the very places of all our children’s education should be so anti-science.

I wouldn't sign. DDs school had these (new build) and they worked really well

The school had the flexibility to designate different area for different sexes but it worked really well, cut down on bullying and the kids got on with it

Signed. Both my children (DD and DS) feel more comfortable with single sex toliets (and outside of school most public/work loos are single sex, why should young people not have the same facilities). While I'm sure some kids are fine with mixed sex loos we need to accommodate those who don't want them.

I've seen this petition on Facebook and Twitter so it's doing the rounds.

Libelula21 as far as I'm aware, nothing has superseded current legislation, so schools still have to legally provide single-sex toilets.

The petition makes a very sensible suggestion that most of the toilets should be for either males or females, with a small number as gender neutral for anyone else who prefers such facilities. And the disabled toilets would continue to be provided without any reduction in numbers.
This would solve all the issues raised and yet so many schools insist on crazy schemes like turning all or most toilets into gender neutral ones.
