I’m aware of it,heard it today. Certainly better than the Westminster 1%

Ginmakesitallok · 25/03/2021 14:03

I'm confused though about what the actual offer is?

It is applicable to all AgendaForChange staff eg Nurses, OT,Physio,AHP, SALT , HCA,managers, lab staff, paramedic, admin

Today announcement is not applicable to Dentists and doctors, that’s covered by Doctors and Dentists Pay Review Body (DDRB). DDRB recommended doctors receive a 2.8% increase:

NHS staff in Scotland are to be offered a pay rise of at least 4%, the Scottish government has confirmed.

Nurses, paramedics and domestic staff are among those who could receive the boost to their salaries.
This from the BBC website

'In Scotland, details of the new pay offer were released just hours before the start of the Holyrood election campaign, during which governments are obliged to avoid making big spending announcements."
From the political editor bbc news

Sundances · 25/03/2021 14:12

It is still under negotiations with unions etc so they haven't accepted it yet.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 14:13

Pay rise nhs Scotland

From government website
The pay rise would ensure that staff on the pay bands 1 to 7 would receive at least a 4% pay rise compared to 2020/21, with the staff who earned less than £25,000 in 2020/21 getting a guaranteed minimum increase of over £1,000 in 2021/22. This means that staff on the lowest Agenda for Change pay point would get a 5.4% increase. Those on the highest pay points will receive uplifts of £800

While pay increases are usually effective from 1 April the 2021/22 pay settlement will be backdated to 1 December 2020 in recognition of an exceptional year of significant pressure for staff. This follows the £500 thank you payment for health and social care workers

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 14:17

Yes it’s subject to the unions agreeing it.
I’m not directly impacted by this pay offer, but it’s encouraging. I don’t think it’s enough, but it’s at least a recognition of the arduous year and physical and mental health demands upon staff

Ginmakesitallok · 25/03/2021 15:09

I'm band 8a. What is the offer for me? £800? I don't think I'm on "the highest paypoints"? Previously highest payphones referred to folk on £80k and above?

I don’t begrudge low paid NHS staff pay rises (porters, nurses etc). Drs and consultants already earn well. I’d like to see carers get a rise if possible.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 16:33

Carers? If you mean HCA yes they’ll get a pay rise
If you're nhs employed and paid under AFC you’ll get a rise

Flossy05 · 25/03/2021 16:34

@Ginmakesitallok I agree. An 8a isn’t mega bucks. I am a band 7 and will benefit but my senior colleagues 8a and above have been working 10-14 hour days every day for over a year. They have had hardly any leave and even when they do they are answering emails and going to meetings. It’s a kick in the teeth. Disappointed for colleagues who have worked so hard and are exhausted.

ProseccoThyme · 25/03/2021 17:29

It's the biggest pay rise in recent years, which will add £1850 (I think) to the top of my band 7 salary.

Of course it's blatant electioneering but it won't persuade me to vote SNP.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 18:22

I don’t think it blatant electioneering, I think Ms Sturgeon is genuinely appreciative
She’s got family who are HCP and im sure she’s adequately briefed about the arduous conditions

Viviennemary · 25/03/2021 18:26

What about other workers that are not employed by the NHS. I don't think it's a good idea at all.

Imicola · 25/03/2021 18:48

I agree with @ProseccoThyme it is Blatant electioneering, it couldn't have been more suspiciously timed. Just as we enter purdah, a big announcement to set the Scottish government above the uk government on a topic that many people currently feel more strongly than usual about.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 18:50

@Viviennemary

What about them?the nhs doesn’t set the pay for those employed out with NHS What’s not a good idea?paying the nhs staff a moderate award after a ghastly yr
GintyMcGinty · 25/03/2021 18:52

A cynical person would say that a 4% pay rise , announced after parliament has shut down is disrespectful to Parliament and electioneering.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 18:53

Can’t say I’m bothered. Of course a politician is going to seek gain & favourable press

riverrunning · 25/03/2021 19:28

I'm sure there are a lot of other workers too eyeing this and wondering when they'll next see a 4 percent pay rise. I don't begrudge them but I wonder about the fairness of it.

In income terms, the group that has suffered most under covid is the under 25s, hugely.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 19:47

What’s your point? Are you suggesting nhs don’t get a pay award because others are experiencing economic uncertainty

Viviennemary · 25/03/2021 19:52

Then it will be the police. Then the teachers. Then the firemen. And it will be a vicious circle. MPs should not get a pay rise either. Nor should the royals allowances be ncreased. That's the biggest injustice of all with all their money.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 19:58

So what if it is police & teachers next? They deserve it
What is a vicious circle, what’s that mean?
The royal family aren’t salaried employees. They receive remuneration it’s not a salary as they’re not employed

riverrunning · 25/03/2021 20:04

I'm suggesting yes that helping people who have job security and haven't suffered income loss isn't the fairest place to start.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/03/2021 20:17

Really?
You think the job security of working throughout covid is reward enough

Tell me,other times when other industries were booming, with many jobs, bonuses, tips, did you think they should not receive any additional remuneration because they were secure?

florafoxtrot · 25/03/2021 20:20

You think giving public sector workers a pay rise is a vicious cycle and a bad idea? I think you’re going to have to explain that a bit better.
