Hi, can anyone help me with this please. Just received my tax code info in a letter this morning and as the photograph shows I'm being charged at 41% for anything above £31093. I thought the higher rate started at £43k or thereabouts?

That's after your tax free allowance, so if you add that on to the amount quoted it should be about right?

Tax free is about 12k

That's the amounts above your tax free allowance. So the first 12.5k is untaxed (for most) then the rates shown apply above that.

If it's any consolation, I thought the same but stopped short of posting about it Smile

I actually think it's a confusing way to detail it and I'd raise that if I worked for the HMRC.
