I might as well join all my neighbours seem to be in !

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/03/2021 23:13

@StarryEyeSurprise

It could be wrong, I just read it. I would say you or WaxOn could join the group and read it yourself but I don't think you'd like that.

Any pro indys that are interested- Believe in Scotland is a fantastic group. Run by Gordon Macintyre Kemp. Very strict admin. Great discussion.

"Great discussion with very strict admin." Isn't that a contradiction in terms? Sounds like if you don't fully and blindly support you are out???
Dinnafashyersel · 03/03/2021 23:18

Yep my MP is SNP as well so while he sits in the WM Parliament he is Not part of the UK Govt. He is actually very helpful if you have an unresolved plumbing issue or the like but as the SNP block vote under orders from Blackford he seldom impacts much at WM.

I even find my particular SNP MSP and Councillors to be approachable and effective.

However running the Scottish Govt in Holyrood with the objective of securing Independence rather than decent Govt of services in Scotland is an insurmountable obstacle to me ever voting SNP again.

I am not ideologically opposed to Independence because in the final analysis Scotland's interdependence with the UK and current state of Devolution is such that it would be largely a change in emphasis. So I thought right up till it all became about all things anti-English and single faction within a single party loyalty.

The proceedings today only served to heighten the suspicion of a cosy cabal acting as judge and jury over their own behaviour.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2021 23:20

So are we getting evidence of the 7000 or is that in the group we don't want to be in? If starry is (again) unable to verify this I guess it will be all over the papers tomorrow and we can read all about it.

GirlLovesWorld · 03/03/2021 23:20

@ShowmetheSnowdrops

Look, I know this is really difficult for some SNP supporters to understand but Scotland does not exist on some kind of utopian vacuum.

It requires investment, trust in its institutions and people.

Scots can be found excelling and at the top of their professions throughout the world.

As a result of the divisive and insular politics of the SNP, Scots are in danger of not being highly regarded and warmly received, which is fine if you never leave Dundee.

This whole debacle brings shame to Scottish politics and unfortunately to Scotland.

I’ve no idea how you can watch Sturgeon’s performance today and not hear the klaxons go off that this is not honest, transparent governance for the benefit of the whole of the Scottish population and not a cosy club of Scots who have forgotten what they are paid to do.

Big hint - education, health, poverty, infrastructure for a start.

Awww thanks so much for explaining Scotland to us all.

I'll bin my four decades of Scottishness and my international politics degree now that you're here to put me right.

StarryEyeSurprise · 03/03/2021 23:21

No @truly. You don't need to be an indy supporter to join. I just aimed my comment at indy supporters as didn't think others on the thread would be interested.

Are you for real? You think there's been a document produced today on how many joined the SNP?
ShowmetheSnowdrops · 03/03/2021 23:22

Newsnight reporting that Salmond has submitted more evidence to the Committee substantiating his version of events.

Jackie Baillie says it’s too early to tell if there will be a unified Committee report but they are determined to issue their report before Parliament rises.
She also says the reason that they’re here at the 11th hour is because ScotGov have obstructed the work of the Committee.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 03/03/2021 23:24

GirlLovesWorld
You’re very welcome.

LexMitior · 03/03/2021 23:25

I think there will be more to come in any event - newspapers have been sitting on stories while Sturgeon gave her evidence and will tailor them what she said or omitted to say today. Not the end, I think.

Dinnafashyersel · 03/03/2021 23:25

George Galloway always reliable to say the unsayable.
If you were aware that the "difficult to work for" ex boss you have now deposed is "problematic around women" do you as a woman really invite him round to your private residence when your DH is out?

This is something which was obscured in NS evidence. She said she had meetings at home that day and he was fitted in. Sounded like there were other people around who were potential witnesses but also makes it even less credible she managed to keep it quiet and there were no records? Not sure what AS said in relation to this but I have a vague recollection he referred to her aide being there?

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2021 23:26

Are you for real? You think there's been a document produced today on how many joined the SNP?

What? No, I expect that if there has been a surge of membership to the SNP today that would be something that the papers would be reporting on?

Dinnafashyersel · 03/03/2021 23:28

Yep. Agree with Jackie B. See earlier post about continual can kicking to make sure it is the electorate rather than the Parliamentary system who are the final arbiters - as if any of us have any clue how they all operate to make a judgement.

LexMitior · 03/03/2021 23:28

Send it to Andrew Neil - he'll be interested
TheShadowyFeminist · 03/03/2021 23:29

Did Ye, Aye Twitter thread

This thread seems to contain a lot of the 'new' SNP members. It's a real organic not-in-any-way co-ordinated membership boost off the back of Sturgeon's evidence session today.

I'm almost inspired myself to sign up ...

They might. But we still on 'today ' and they probably won't as that would be something positive about the SNP.

Is there an "I just left the SNP" version too?
WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2021 23:33

Not even The Independent or any of the other Pro Indy papers?

Dinnafashyersel · 03/03/2021 23:33

You are naive if you think this has no impact on Scots working in England and further afield. My DH's family all live in the South East. When I married him and was living in London 30 years ago there was very little sniping about my Scottishness other than re the football. 30 years on it is a recurring theme.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 03/03/2021 23:35

The thing is lots of perfectly normal people do vote SNP and then I see things like that on Twitter and I’m just dumbfounded.

Is it a pre requisite to dress up as Fran and Anna to join these Twitter groups.

OldRailer · 03/03/2021 23:36

ShadowyFeminist that is inspiring! Thanks for posting.

It reminds me of the totally undecideds on a couple of TV programmes in 2014 who turned into totally committed Yes voters over the course of 50 minutes of debate.
Heartwarming.

TheShadowyFeminist · 03/03/2021 23:37

"Heartwarming"

It fair warms the cockles, eh? 😁

So we should be running our country in a way that would appease idiots who would snipe at a person because of their nationality?
Dinnafashyersel · 03/03/2021 23:38

Man that thread. It's like the end of a Billy Graham recruitment rally. Grin

OldRailer · 03/03/2021 23:40

Oh kurt the irony of your post.

Goodnight one and all. X
