kurt not patronising but I do think it’s important to realise how this looks outside Scotland.

Most folk can’t make head nor tale of the whole ‘he said’ ‘she said’ aspect to the scandal.
Newsnight etc have attempted to tackle it but as all these threads demonstrate it’s murky, to say the least.

Scots enjoy goodwill outside Scotland because of their intellect, education, work ethic and integrity.

The division and constant complaining by the SNP is impacting on this.
A pp last night ( I think or night before) spoke of the professional difficulties caused by this and we are seeing it too.

This whole debacle portrays Scottish politics in a very poor light.

Andrew Neil has been around forever and definitely knows where all the bodies are buried, so to speak so agree with him or not, he’s worth keeping an eye on.

As for the Daily Record story that was spiked allegedly, there are all kinds of things that aren’t transparent.

As previously mentioned cosy relationships

Maybe confusing, but compared to UK gov, France and many other parts of Europe it's really not. If it had been hushed up like Salmon wanted that would be a different matter. The fact the FM sat for 7 hours bring questioned means scandal is taken seriously. How long have others sat to answer their peers for far worse?

Cismyfatarse · 03/03/2021 21:49

Anyone hint / dm about super injunction. Am mystified.

kittykat22 · 03/03/2021 21:50

and not to mention broadcast on live tv for the full 7 hours

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2021 21:52

Again, Salmond is not on trial here, it's the handling/mishandling of the complaints by ScotGov that is the issue.

That's why I would like a link of some kind or some evidence of what it does look like outside of Scotland.

It feels like a bit of a non issue to be honest. It's so slippery and hard to fully grasp that it doesn't have headline appeal. I can't see why there would be interest ouwith this country.

Exactly.
WouldBeGood · 03/03/2021 21:54

But why wouldn’t Scottish politics be of interest to the world at large?

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 03/03/2021 21:55

Amortentia again stop deflecting.
If you want to start a thread on the machinations of a French politics and the frailties of Emmanuel Macron, feel free.

So, NS was in the hot seat for 7 hours. Big deal.
She kept saying how much relished the opportunity give us ‘the facts’.

Not sure how long you’re working day is, but mine is longer than 7 hours but if that’s the bench mark by which you rate the First Minister of Scotland, might I suggest you raise your expectations/ ambitions somewhat.

Boom
ShowmetheSnowdrops · 03/03/2021 21:56

Apologies for typos.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2021 21:56

And a deflection to "well it's not as bad as Westminster"

StarryEyeSurprise · 03/03/2021 22:00

No, a deflection to the hypocrisy. Warranted!!

WouldBeGood · 03/03/2021 22:00

I find it possible to despise corruption in more than one political party. Indeed, in any political party.

kurtrussellsbeard · 03/03/2021 22:00

@WouldBeGood

Why would it? People have busy lives. It's hard enough to fit everything you need to do in never mind taking an interest in the politics of another completely separate country.

Some people will be interested, of course, but a minority surely?

I could also see them being interested in the big things but this? Not so much.

kurtrussellsbeard · 03/03/2021 22:04

Of course parallels will be drawn with Westminster. They are our gov too. It's like comparing parents, I suppose.

Plus, it's very easy to feel that if we don't have the SNP in charge up here that devolution is on a shaky peg. So we compare through the fear that i the not too distant future they could be our only government.

littlbrowndog · 03/03/2021 22:04

But many Scottish people myself included have rellies in other countries so they are interested.

Are they called the diaspora?

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 03/03/2021 22:04

Plus, if I pissed away £600,000 of tax payers money, I wouldn’t be expecting a pat on the head and a gold star.

But then I function in the real world where proper procedures are adhered to, talented people aren’t sacked with no good reason and there is something called accountability.

Oh yes, and your damn right, allegations of sexual misconduct are taken seriously and I don’t throw my female colleagues under the bus to save my skin.
Otherwise, I’d be out of a job at the very least and I actually wouldn’t be able to look at myself in the mirror.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/03/2021 22:05

No it's really not.
kittykat22 · 03/03/2021 22:06

I don't think it's really very interesting to other countries, too complex and difficult to grasp. I don't think many people outwith the UK would be particularly bothered about it

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2021 22:06

It's not hypocritical to discuss the Salmond/STurgeon mess on a thread about that specific subject.
