I've just been for a test.

Felt unwell last night and didn't sleep, temperature is up from normal ( although not outside bounds of normal) and have scratchy throat/headache. Sense of smell has not gone as DH used my absence to cook himself a mackerel for lunch and the house absolutely stinks.

Had my pick of test slots ( Edinburgh airport) and there seemed to be a very large proportion of staff in relation to the actual number of people being tested. Thankfully this meant a nice lady did the test for me. Fingers crossed it's negative- I've been outdoors for a couple of walks with people and I'd hate to pass it on. Thought I'd better have the test as I'm off next week and had some vague plans.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 12:41

@rookiemere hope you feel better soon.

I’m not in favour of these tests for pupils. But I’ll let DS decide.

Peppafrig · 08/03/2021 12:42

I can see so many kids just saying no as the school can’t force them. My own son plays the system by refusing to get the flu spray every year. Drives me crazy as I then need to take him to get it done at the doctors . But school can’t force him obviously even though they know I will then need to take him out one afternoon to get it .

Changes to way hospital cases are counted??

Either someone is in hospital or not and they either have COVID or they do not, surely??

Admitted because of COVID, or acquired whilst in hospital for other reasons are sub questions.

Or are they just moving the goalposts to keep us locked down forever.

Dinnafashyersel · 08/03/2021 12:50

Something in the Herald about Scotland's stats. Been rumbling around all week but not on top of it. I wonder if this is what Swinney is talking about?

rookiemere · 08/03/2021 12:51

Maybe Glasgow has been over counting .

GirlLovesWorld · 08/03/2021 12:52

Hope you're feeling better soon @rookiemere

Obviously tests aren't compulsory for kids, but I can't imagine turning them down (I have a P7 so not quite there yet).

Dinnafashyersel · 08/03/2021 12:53

Drive there was some suggestion that boomeranging patients between hospitals and nursing homes was obfuscating stats but as I say not sure what's at the heart of it.

Also been an ongoing issue throughout with Scotland not counting hospital discharges in a timely manner - became very evident over the Summer.

GirlLovesWorld · 08/03/2021 12:53

Surprised the hospitalisation number is up after falling every day for a few weeks.

Wonder if it's another backlog, there have been a few things like that appearing on the daily update.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 12:54

I’d turn them down, but I imagine DS will accept.

rookiemere · 08/03/2021 12:55

@GirlLovesWorld on the BBC website it says the hospital number is up because of changes in the ways numbers are counted.

GirlLovesWorld · 08/03/2021 12:58

Ahhh is this related to the Glasgow thing JS mentioned then? It's all a bit unclear!

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/03/2021 12:59

Jason Leitch's claims being investigated:

Scottishskifun · 08/03/2021 13:00

Oh crikey hint that tier system is being examined at bigger than LA area and possibly geographical area....
If they take Central belt as a whole I feel very bad for Edinburgh!

Icannever · 08/03/2021 13:01

They said the hospital number is up because Glasgow health board was only counting tests done in hospital not people who were tested by lighthouse labs (so I guess they didn’t count people who were admitted after having already had a test)

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/03/2021 13:02

Sorry I should say his claims have been asked to be investigated.

GirlLovesWorld · 08/03/2021 13:03

@Icannever

They said the hospital number is up because Glasgow health board was only counting tests done in hospital not people who were tested by lighthouse labs (so I guess they didn’t count people who were admitted after having already had a test)
Jeez, why the f not? How strange.
IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/03/2021 13:05

So does that mean double counting folk then? I had a family member test positive and need hospital they where tested regularly during their stay so would they have test counted twice or am I way off here?

Icannever · 08/03/2021 13:16

I missed that @Scottishskifun. What did they say? Wonder what they’d do with Fife?

mibbelucieachwell · 08/03/2021 13:18

Fingers crossed it's not covid and you feel better very soon Rookie

I think there's about 60% parental consent for LF tests in English schools.

GirlLovesWorld · 08/03/2021 13:25

Good point @Icannever Fife is massive and I'm about 45 minutes away from anywhere that's had any more than 3 cases in the last seven days.

Lockdownbear · 08/03/2021 13:34

Good God nothing like making Glasgow's figures look worse than they already do.

But it certainly throws more doubt on the idea that Scotland was ever anywhere near Covid free.

SNP must be starting to shake in their boots!

Scottishskifun · 08/03/2021 13:35

@Icannever

I missed that *@Scottishskifun*. What did they say? Wonder what they’d do with Fife?
it was in response to a question about if numbers didn't drop in some areas such Clackmannanshire and Stirling would they stay in tier 4...... The answer was that they are examining how tiers are applied taking into account movement of people across boundaries and that the central belt has consistently been more affected than other regions by high numbers...... So looks like they are looking at grouping a few or more areas together and this might be geographical areas or more likely health boards as its easier data wise!
fluffyugg · 08/03/2021 13:43

@GirlLovesWorld I can see plenty turning them down. They're invasive and uncomfortable and I know a lot of parents would rather avoid another layer of potential anxiety when many teens are already in a fragile state.

dancemom · 08/03/2021 13:45

Dd has been having them twice a week for the past fortnight. They are pretty invasive but whatever it takes to be back at school safely for me
