Is springboig family friendly?

We’re planning on moving to Glasgow with our baby and were wondering how family friendly springboig is? Any advice would be much appreciated. ☺️

It's not really an obvious area to choose and is not really in central Glasgow. For family friendly areas with good schools etc you would be better looking at places like Bearsden, Newton Mearns, Milngavie, Lenzie, Bishopbriggs, some parts of West End like Hyndland and Jordanhill.

Springboig is not bad btw. But if I was moving to Glasgow for first time I would choose one of the other areas I mentioned which have excellent schools and amenities.

I lived there in my 20s, I thought it was great and very friendly. Not sure what it’s like now. But good transport links with a train station and plenty buses. Also easy access to main arterial roads. Great Chinese takeaway but I don’t even know if it still exists.
The other places are very nice but the cost of a home there will reflect that. Springboig is in the east end of Glasgow.

Good point about property prices. East end is much much cheaper than the areas I mentioned. Some nice new estates around in areas like Broomhouse and Bargeddie. However, the trade off is that usually schools are not quite as good in these areas. (In saying that I know kids who have done well in East End schools and gone on to uni. Generally as there are some more deprived areas nearby it can affect overall school exam results etc).

So I think decision will depend on your budget. What I will say though is that people in Glasgow are super friendly and you should make friends easily through activities with your child.

Perhaps if the OP is asking about springboig she can't afford Bearsden or Milngavie? There's a significant price difference there in the property market.

Maybe East Kilbride? Rutherglen? Crookston? Kings Park?

Kitty2019 none of the areas you mentioned are in Central Glasgow, most aren't even in Glasgow!

You are quite right to be fair. (although Bishopbriggs and Hyndland would be closest I think).

I was thinking about the most desirable family areas in terms of schools etc in greater Glasgow area. Most of them are 15 to 20 mins from City Centre.

Didn't mean to confuse the OP. Just suggested these areas if budget permits. (I don't live in any of these btw).

If the OP comes back with details of work location and budget hopefully we can give good suggestions 🙂

Thanks for your replies everyone. Tbh we only considered springboig because we saw a beautiful traditional house that we would never be able to afford anywhere else. Our budget is £230k. We need to be able to get to strathclyde uni easily and for my parents to get to us from Edinburgh so prefer to be near a train station. We tried to view places in bishopbriggs and rutherglen but they were sold before we even got to the viewing! 😂

Like all Over the country every area has good and less good parts, nothing fundamentally wrong with Springboig at all although I have no idea what schools are like if that's a consideration.

If it is a consideration choose carefully as placing requests to schools out with your area are not easily come by these days.

Nothing wrong with most of Bishopbriggs. Rutherglen has a mix I'd say as it borders a few areas.

But again everyone has their own opinions.

£230K is a decent budget for most areas too.

Offers over £210k? The house is lovely looking and totally get why you'd be interested in it, I used to walk past those ones and think the same, lots of house for the money. I wouldn't choose to raise a family there though.

Every area has its problems but I've lived in a few locations over the years and living round the corner from that house was definitely an eye opener! Maybe I was just unlucky but I witnessed domestic abuse, drug dealing and a stabbing all from my flat. I never personally felt unsafe but I'm glad not to live there any more!

Thanks everyone. We’ve decided not to make an offer (yes, it was the offers over 210k house) we're sure we’d be perfectly safe there but realized we’ll probably be happier in a different area. Thanks again for all your help. We really appreciate it! 😊

It’s like anywhere else. Everywhere has its good and bad points. It depends what you’re looking for

Also Bishopbriggs borders some very dodgy areas so be careful if buying there too.
