Asymptomatic Testing Edinburgh

Is it possible for me and my children to get tested without symptoms? I’m going to my mum and dad’s for a few days (before the Covid police get on their high horse my dad has terminal cancer so it is permitted as providing care and support to a vulnerable person). They have both had dose 1 if the vaccine but obviously I’d like to minimise any risk of taking Covid. Can we be tested?

Of course you can.

Where I am in Scotland we have an asymptomatic nhs testing centre that any member of the public can book a test. It's a trial though and I'm not sure if it's been rolled out in Edinburgh yet.

You can get private tests done at the airport for £70 each.

Just lie on the form and say you’re symptomatic. Go to a drive through test centre, no one comes near you, the test gets dropped through a sliver of an opening of your car window into your lap.

But would they test all 3 of us?

Yes. Just register all 3, although I'm sure Edinburgh probably has asymptomatic testing also.

I was going to suggest this also. They dont check, just register you all and then isolate as though you have it omce tested so as not to catch it before you go.

I’ve googled and found asymptomatic testing centres in Fife and Glasgow but none here.

I'm not aware of any but someone I know got a private test done for about £75. Not sure where though.

JudgeRindersMinder · 23/02/2021 23:15

Just go on the website and tick the boxes that say you have the symptoms -they WANT people tested

emmathedilemma · 24/02/2021 08:09

Balanced physiotherapy in Edinburgh we're doing private tests in the run up to Christmas, I'm not sure if they're still are.

Chemenger · 24/02/2021 08:11

Try the travel clinics for private tests. There are a few in Edinburgh. I would probably just book in for an NHS one with faked symptoms.

theotherfossilsister · 24/02/2021 11:11

Yes, after one of you fills in the form it will ask who else lives in your household, and whether they have had any symptoms. We both had a filfthy cold and hacking cough two weeks ago, and when I filled in the form online it asked me who else was in my household, so DP didn't have to go through it all again.

I hope you get to see your dad. Mine has terminal cancer too and is in France.

LoopyGremlin · 24/02/2021 20:18

Thanks everyone. I will look into the different options.
@theotherfossilsister I hope you are able to travel to see your dad soon. Flowers
