My daughter (17 & CEV) had her vaccine last week.

anon444877 · 15/02/2021 16:21

glad to hear that sexnotgender, it's the main good thing about now, hearing of people getting their vaccines.

Sootess · 15/02/2021 16:40

@Sexnotgender I remember your thread last week.
So glad you got it sorted and she's had her jab

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 15/02/2021 16:41

This is why the envelopes were blue, and were widely publicised as such - so people wouldn't just chuck them. Apparently they asked the Royal Mail what colour would be most distinctive.

I meant to come back and update it and got sidetracked! Yes delighted she managed to get it!

anon444877 · 15/02/2021 16:47

I can say from doing paper ticket organising, there's no envelope colour people can't lose, gold, neon, I've tried it!

jabbathebutt · 15/02/2021 17:44

That's chris whitty in the briefing implying that we might have social distancing measures every winter. I wonder if that applies to face masks too Sad

Lockdownbear · 15/02/2021 17:48

Social distancing every winter 🤔
1, Define winter - it better not be September to April.
2, What exactly do they mean face covering in shops, that I could live with.

But this is the last Christmas I'm spending with SD crackers and a patio door open.

Oh brill! Glad to hear it. Smile That must be a big weight off your mind.
kurtrussellsbeard · 15/02/2021 17:51

@Sexnotgender that's great.

Social distancing every winter? Wtf.

Oh God. If they mean wfh where possible, and not getting too close in shops I can probably cope with that. If they mean not being able to meet your family inside, and not being able to go to the theatre, concerts, church or whatever over Christmas, I'm not up for it, thanks. I'd quite like to ditch masks too, though I'd tolerate being asked to wear them in public if I have a cold or am coughing/ sneezing a lot.

I think one of the things I'm finding most difficult is the implicit assumption that other people are just mobile petri dishes of germs, and the aim is to get them through your shop/ workplace/ bus or whatever as quickly as possible without them touching anything with their germy hands or infecting you or anyone else. It's quite a horrible view of life frankly, and I'd really like it to disappear and let us start seeing everyone else as people again, who are often quite nice to interact with, even in a shallow smiley way in passing. Sorry. Maybe that should be on the railing thread.

NotAnActualSheep · 15/02/2021 18:02

And I'd like the government not to view those interactions on a scale of how disapproving they are....from "against guidance" to "contrary to regulations and we will fine you". Thanks.

jabbathebutt · 15/02/2021 18:10

where is the railing thread?

MaxNormal · 15/02/2021 18:13

Sexnotgender that's great news Smile

Sexnotgender · 15/02/2021 18:33

Thanks, it’s such good news for us. Both my parents, daughter and husband have now had their first dose. DH gets his second dose in about 3 weeks. I’m pregnant and not vulnerable so no vaccine for me.

NotAnActualSheep · 15/02/2021 18:47

It's here jabba Grin I'm doing impotent howling at the moon there and measured, considered and eloquent posts here Wink... of course.
AudacityOfHope · 15/02/2021 18:52

I don't understand the thing about social distancing forever, masks etc. Matt Hancock said the other day we'd have coronavirus become endemic within the population and get used to a few thousands deaths each year, same as flu.

Fine. Except, who is going to be dying in these huge numbers if we're all vaccinated?

ssd · 15/02/2021 18:54

Thanks for everyone answering me question.

Exactly this. Would expect some deaths from very elderly and vulnerable, those who don't get vaccinated. Why on earth would we need continued social distancing?
ssd · 15/02/2021 19:03

Possibly to stop the mutations evolving?

anon444877 · 15/02/2021 19:09

We don't try to stop flu mutating though do we, we just have a vaccine that tries to predict the likeliest prevalent strain.

AudacityOfHope · 15/02/2021 19:09

I guess so but it's hard to picture implementing it forever more!

kurtrussellsbeard · 15/02/2021 19:11

I can only assume that they are worried about the mutations more than they would be about any flu mutations. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MissEliza · 15/02/2021 19:20

@goodname that sounds like an interesting experiment.
