@Waverless

I'm hoping there will be high uptake of the pupil & teacher bi weekly voluntary testing, not only to lower transmission but also bring the % positivity rate down.

Which I do not get as a measure. This magic 5% being the level at which the virus is out of control. Can anyone explain? Surely it's a measure of testing?

If it's the lateral flow tests I'm not sure they're counted in daily figures as not reliable enough.
I'm nhs and if we test positive on lateral flow we have to go for full pcr test to have it confirmed
@Lockdownbear It's not just Glasgow is it, with the tougher restrictions. I'm Stirlingshire and we've not been allowed indoor visits since (I think) end of August.
That's why I said Glasgow and West Central belt.

But definitely targeted responses is needed. Preferably by people working outside the home in hotspots first.

We’ve given up on homeschooling this week. I can’t be bothered with the arguments anymore. The work is subpar anyway, it’s just a load of boring PowerPoints and worksheets from the internet. No actual teacher effort that I can see. No online teaching, no videos.
I’ve made a deal with the kids that we can learn about whatever they want and they don’t have to do school work as long as there is no gaming and less (no seems impossible 😀) fighting in school
Hours. They can do any building, crafty thing they want, drawing, Lego etc. We’ve founds some interesting museums tours etc and are listening to a book on audible, listening to homeschool history on radio 4. It’s going better so far.
I’m trying to stop thinking how awful home schooling is (it really is awful though 😀) and see what we can do that’s different from school. Actual homeschooling instead of school at home. We’ll see how it goes, I’ll probably still be crying by the end of the day 😀

I don't remember being allowed them in Fife for ages either.
Certainly not at end of October as I remember meeting outside then for a family birthday.

Actually can't really picture my mums living room anymore. So strange.

Groovee · 15/02/2021 11:15

@ssd

Can I ask you all a question?

If you were at work and you were told you have to do a 2 hr training course, with 3 others, one not in a mask, no window open, in a room not very big at all.....would this bother you?

Yes it would. That's why I was on edge during a staff meeting. Since then they have all been on teams. Our windows are open all the time which is why we were given fleeces or hoodies to wear. Fortunately with us nursery are outdoors. We go in for breaks. Usually on our own. I miss the social side. But I've learned how to layer up so that my fibromyalgia doesn't seize me up due to the cold.
Lidlfix · 15/02/2021 11:20

For the lateral flow test for pupils and teachers the instructions state that a positive result should be verified by a PCR. There are codes we have to enter to monitor the testing and results.

Glasgow's circuit breaker meant to last 3 weeks started 1st September, Lanarkshire was a few weeks later. That includes when the restaurants and coffee shops closed (excluding a couple of weeks in December). People are becoming very fatigued of it and can't go on missing family and friends indefinitely.

It is not your place to say anything or be the covid secure police

Any employee has the right to raise concerns or request further information such as risk assessments under the health and safety at work act and also covid regulations.

Reasonable adjustment obviously needs to be taken into account for disabled workers this is part of the law but its incorrect to say that people cannot ask questions about what covid measures their workplace has in place.

The HSE has received and investigated lots of employers not following the regulations and I'm afraid that ventilation pays a part of the measures. This can either be a non circulating ventilation system or windows open.

regarding home schooling, DDs a lot happier in this lockdown as its been much better compared to what was offered in 1st lockdown. I think it has also taught her essential study skills and prioritising her work and managing her time and all those things that will be important come exam time and college/university. Its just the social aspect that she misses really, although I've told her she's grounded this week so no walks with her friends.

On the hotel quarantine thing, there is a big list of exemptions here of people who don't have to go to the hotel and can just make their own arrangements for quarantine. Doesn't seem to include compassionate grounds, but eg people travelling for medical care, or accompanying a child don't need to go to a hotel. Lots of business travel is exempt too, including offshore stuff, so that may avoid some of the issues we were raising last night on Scottish contractors etc being subject to a non-negligible expense their English colleagues wouldn't have.

MaxNormal · 15/02/2021 13:06

@NotAnActualSheep thanks for posting that. It's a much larger list of exemptions than what was initially threatened so there's that.
The linked document under the elite sportsperson exemption is a bit of a mess and there seem to be loads missing or removed.

MaxNormal · 15/02/2021 13:08

Basically I was hoping to see golf on there.

Lockdownbear · 15/02/2021 13:20

Just a daft thought. If your coming for one of the many non 33 listed countries, why would you opt to quarantine in Scotland in a £££ hotel for 10 days when you could happily holiday in England for 10 days at a fraction of the price before travelling north, and be within the law?

Oh and i want to know do a couple sharing a room get a discount on the quarantine price??

Really engage brain before they open their mouths and let their belly rumble.

NotAnActualSheep · 15/02/2021 13:22

Oh yes, I see what you mean! That's a bit of a mess. I can't believe darts and snooker are included, but golf isn't though... Looks to be specific events that are excluded, so maybe that's it.

NotAnActualSheep · 15/02/2021 13:26

No reason! Sounds like a good plan, really. Though you would have to quarantine yourself, but nicer to do it in a cottage or something chosen by yourself, and cheaper!

Yes, couples do get a discount. It's £1,750 for the first traveller in a room, £650 for an additional adult or a child over 12, and £325 for a child aged 5-12. Bargain. Can't imagine anything nicer than sharing a family room...

anon444877 · 15/02/2021 13:27

Golf not included and we're the home of golf aren't we 😂

MaxNormal · 15/02/2021 13:29

Yeah that seems somewhat of an oversight Grin
If that gets included then we'll be okay now now. That's probably a bit outing but fuck it.

NotAnActualSheep · 15/02/2021 13:33

You are Tiger Woods aren't you. Admit it! Grin

Waverless · 15/02/2021 13:36

Yes I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would now fly into Scotland.

In fact if you're in any of the red countries, go to one that isn't, stay for 10 days, then fly into England. Still mitigates the risk of transmission but no need for draconian and costly government sanctioned quarantine hotels.

What about sea passengers (or euro tunnel) coming to Scotland via England. Do their details also get taken on arrival?

MaxNormal · 15/02/2021 13:54

You are Tiger Woods aren't you. Admit it!

You got me Grin

Checks are the same at all entry ports but does rather beg the question of what happens when you turn up in a campervan with three dogs assuming you admit to your journey commencing in Portugal.

polarisation · 15/02/2021 14:02

DH just got his blue envelope - he's young but on the flu jab list for his weight, and he's a teacher so it's a HUGE weight off my mind that he should get it before the schools go back full time.

We're in East Dunbartonshire and I saw on travelling tabby that we're getting ahead with getting down the lists 🥳

NotAnActualSheep · 15/02/2021 14:08

Yes, the possibilities of loopholes are endless. Apparently there were 3 people on today's flight from Turkey to Edinburgh (and I assume those 3 people would have been exempt from the hotel quarantine through business or similar). Odds of the remaining passengers having transferred to a flight to Manchester, Newcastle or Heathrow would be pretty high, I'd have thought. Wonder if the airlines are under any obligation to report amended bookings? I assume not, as people may not even rebook with the same airline. I bet Edinburgh Airport is steaming right now.

jabbathebutt · 15/02/2021 14:18

Cousin got his blue envelope too (I didn't know it came in a blue envelope). He has had a stroke in the past - does that make him CEV? He's 39.

jabbathebutt · 15/02/2021 14:20

Looking at the picture of his blue envelope, I think some people would just bin it thinking its junk mail. They should put wording on it saying 'covid vaccine' or something, then people would open it and get their jag!

MaxNormal · 15/02/2021 14:27

Very glad to hear people are getting their invites through that need them! Thats encouraging.
