Ah that's awful mondaywine hope you get somewhere.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 14/02/2021 19:50

@MaxNormal hugs to you. I don't know how you are coping. It is incredibly stressful. I differ from most on this thread and so not support the restrictions any more. Self employed and minimal support. It hits different when you are seriously considering how you are supposed to make money

MaxNormal · 14/02/2021 19:54

@mondaywine that is awful! I'd naively thought that the over 70s were all done now, keep reading good new stories about even people in their 50s getting it. It's just not acceptable, we're not even half way through February yet.

MaxNormal · 14/02/2021 19:57

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 thank you. It's a tough boat to be in for sure and I'm so sorry you're in the same situation.
It's the uncertainty that gets you, isn't it? The constant hope/fear/disappointment/worry cycle.

I know that's not the only stressor obviously, I'm sure there are many people absolutely desperate for all sorts of reasons and I don't want anyone else struggling to think I'm dismissing that because we're not in the exact same situation.

mondaywine · 14/02/2021 20:00

Yup I keep hearing the same. I refuse to believe that he and the other two people we know are the only three in our health board in this position. He is pretty capable but is overwhelmed by sorting this out which is why I have taken over. I do worry that others may not have someone who can do this for them.

Lockdownbear · 14/02/2021 20:10

Mondaywine, I'd contact the GP and NHS Lothian, I'm sure Lanarkshire has said for any over 70s who haven't been contacted to get in touch.

mondaywine · 14/02/2021 20:21

Yeah we’ve been in touch. The Health Board can’t help 🤨 and the GP knows but can do very little as the supplies they’re getting are so small. It means that 60-69 age group will be done a long while before him. I’m hopeful we will get somewhere with his MSP.

NotAnActualSheep · 14/02/2021 20:31

That's awful mondaywine. I really hope you get something sorted. I did laugh when NS said you should email her to get it sorted. Cos she's not got anything better to be doing! Maybe she'll come round with a syringe and do him herself Grin (though actually, others have given better ideas re who to contact...)

And Flowers to Isurvive and max. There are so many people and industries that seem to have no support and no timescales. It is heartbreaking. Things like soft play, nightclubs and even theatres and music stuff (in anything like a "normal" way) just seem to have been forgotten. I'm self employed through a limited company, so I've managed to furlough myself which is something, but I'm starting to get really worried about picking back up with work after all this. I provide services to other companies, and as their workload has dropped, they are using their own staff to do the work. Which is fair enough though I can do it better Grin but a bit of a nightmare for me...

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 14/02/2021 20:52

She did say herself that her staff would be cursing her for saying to email her direct.

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/02/2021 21:04

My niece has just finished college doing a course in music management or something of that ilk. She's ended up going back to study and now doing a degree in something else as there is no work in that area and might not be for some time.

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2021 21:21

Did you see that letter in times Scotland

Private contractors being paid £66.00 per hour to do vaccine

Nurse vaccinators get 13 £ per hour

And they the nurses can’t get shifts as the private contarators have booked out several weeks in advance

So private contractors who are optometrist:and pharmacists are earning 920£ on a 14 hour shift and some nurses are saying that are having to help them as they dont have correct techniques

On 13£ a shift and they can’t get the shifts

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2021 21:22

Sorry 13 £ a hour not a shift

Lockdownbear · 14/02/2021 21:24

It's rotten for the music and entertainment industry. Not just the artists but all the road crew too. Purely my guess but I imagine a lot of those guys will be 'self employed' and no festivals to work last year and probably the same this year. Just rotten.

Yes people will say they can get other work but picking up unskilled work can't pay anything like what they'd earn at their trade.

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/02/2021 21:25

That's terrible @littlbrowndog. It's always like that, we get in contractors sometimes and they can get massive amounts and they usually do a crap job as it takes them weeks to get up to speed.

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2021 21:30

But this is really important wax. Some nurses are saying the contractors are only managing 40-50 vaccinations and they are having to help them where as the nurses can do 130 in the same time

Yet the nurse vaccinators can’t get shifts 🤷‍♀️

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 14/02/2021 21:33

This notion that unskilled work can just be 'picked up' is nonsense. Of the two most often suggested, it's not easy to get a job in a supermarket and their recruitment processes are often time consuming and nonsensical (my bf had to create a marketing campaign for a new drink and present it, when applying for a night shift shelf stacking job) and care jobs can not just be done by anyone.

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/02/2021 21:36

yep, i was agreeing with you, it's despicable really.
littlbrowndog · 14/02/2021 21:51

I know you were wax

Loads of retired recently nurses have returned to help in the vaccinations programme. Yet they can’t get shifts.

Really shocking

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/02/2021 21:57

It is. A lot of my immediate family work for the NHS. My DB had retired and returned during lock down, my SIL offered but wasn't needed, I have 2 nieces who are nurses and DH is a former nurse and now works for the SAS and another DB is managing a testing site. Dh doesn't even earn £13 an hour.

ssd · 14/02/2021 22:15

Can I ask you all a question?

If you were at work and you were told you have to do a 2 hr training course, with 3 others, one not in a mask, no window open, in a room not very big at all.....would this bother you?

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/02/2021 22:22

It wouldn't bother me but I think I'm probably at the opposite end of the scale from you ssd. I think an average person might be slightly concerned though.

ssd · 14/02/2021 22:23

Ok thanks

Not in the slightest. Sorry
ssd · 14/02/2021 22:32
