Vaccine shambles.

Putting this in scotsnet as we’re in Scotland.

Daughter is clinically extremely vulnerable and on shielding list.

Received vaccination appointment for this week.

Today received a letter saying appointment was a mistake, vaccine isn’t being offered to under 16s so they’ve cancelled her appointment.

But she’s 17! Trying to get anyone to help is impossible. GP says just to turn up. But phoning vaccine centre they have no record of her CHI number.

It’s a shambles and no one knows what to do.

Has anyone experienced this?

That's really frustrating. I'm sure Nicola gave out her own email address as a last resort when unable to get answers otherwise - I'm sure it's on the briefing updates on the BBC.

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/02/2021 15:45

"There is nothing going wrong with this programme," she insists.

The first minister reiterates her offer, as a last resort, to contact her at [email protected].

Thanks, will try this.

Also, briefing quotes this:

"I think everyone can see how well this programme is going," continues the first minister.

She thinks the figure of 61,299 vaccinations yesterday in Scotland will proportionately be the highest figure that any nation in the UK has managed so far.

But that bears no resemblance to the figures on Travelling Tabby - unless she is adding days together?

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/02/2021 15:49

Or is that figures that will be released and added tomorrow? I find the MI frustrating, add in the 3 day lag on the 7 day figures for positive tests and it makes it harder to make sense.

They are not allowed to administer it to minors under 18

The letter said 16?

I’ve emailed that first minister email address. Will see what happens.

Different in Scotland then. 18 in England. It wasn't tested on minors is the explanation given

JCVI states anyone over 16 and CEV so I assume it’s probably just a mix up. Is it possible urge GP has the written by DOB on record? Have you called the helpline 0800 030 8013 or did you call your local vaccine centre?

Sexnotgender · 09/02/2021 15:56

JCVI list says:
“all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality”

No mention of needing to be 18 that I can see.

As @WaxOnFeckOff says!
I would also pass it to your MSP to sort out.

If you're not too far from the vaccination centre I would be tempted to just take the original appointment letter and turn up. There's usually more of an effort put in to sorting things out when the person is stood in front of you. They have had some problems finding people on the system but they will find her somewhere. If she has a CHI number she is there!

The plan is just to turn up. With her original appointment letter, shielding letter and passport.

Astra Zeneca is licences for 18+, Pfizer for 16+.

dementedpixie · 09/02/2021 16:06

Which health board is it. Some have different numbers to call

It’s Fife. Will take a look thanks.

It's a shambles.

In Fife yesterday they overbooked thousands of people.

The result pensioners queuing for up to 4 hours in overcrowded non social distanced indoors or outside in the snow.

Hundreds turned away after queuing cause they'd run out of vaccines.

Now baby vaccination clinics are being cancelled to cover this as they think the over booking has run on for says.

And we are still lagging way behind the rest of uk.

Sexnotgender · 09/02/2021 16:12

Yes I saw that at Templehall yesterday. Guess which centre she’s booked at 😏

StarryEyeSurprise · 09/02/2021 16:13

How annoying! I'm sure the doctor can give you her CHI number.

Sexnotgender · 09/02/2021 16:14

We’ve got her CHI. It was the vaccine centre that said she didn’t exist on their system.

Seoirnbru · 09/02/2021 16:24

My understanding (Scottish GP but not in Fife) is that the CEV teens age 16-17 have to be done with Pfizer vaccine, so we can't do them with the rest of our CEV patients as we only get the AZ one. (Locally GPs are doing over 80s, housebound and CEV and the mass centres everyone else). The problem may be that the Centres don't know which they are getting on any given day either, so if she has an appt and it turns out its a AZ day then she can't be done.
I think we are hoping to add our (few) teens in this case to the hospital clinics (which are all Pfizer only) but I'm not sure whether that's happened yet or not.

Sexnotgender · 09/02/2021 16:32

Interesting! Thank you.

OP posts:
umberellaonesie · 15/02/2021 21:00

We are having same problem
Green book doesn't differentiate age on either vaccine.
I finally managed to get GP to book him in for AZ as the guidance says 16 and over can have AZ if Pfizer unavailable.
16/17 year olds are getting lost in the system so you need to make a noise. I have had to cry and stamp my feet at our consultant to get even a phone call back
