Hi All.

Desperately and urgently looking for a 3+ bed property in Bearsden, Glasgow to rent. Been on the well known national websites like rightmove and zoopla but no luck. Any other places to look? Any pointers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is a really small rental market in Bearsden. Lots of properties are pretty long term if snapped up. Sorry. Keep looking. They do trickle on. Try the community Facebook pages with a direct appeal?

Hi. So I just shifted to Bearsden and live 0.1 Mike’s away from Bearsden primary school- which was our preferred school. we have been in touch with the school for the past month and they said they had one place but couldn’t confirm till we shifted here. The day before shifting they said the place was given away twenty four hrs ago ! Very frustrating !!

So we contacted the council who said we would be redirected to another school and given a taxi. Upon reaching Bearsden, they have now redirected us to Mosshead primary school which is 0.9 miles away and say that do resent qualify for taxi (as less than a mile) My five year older ain’t going to walk that far I know for a fact . We could consider sec car but where would I park ?!

So after a frustrating start to my residence here in Bearsden, I am now trying to come up with some arrangements - wonder if you can help:

  1. If I get residents car park permit, what is the additional benefit ? Could I park 24/7 on street I.e new Kirk street where the signage is ‘P’ for one hour 9-5 usually?
  2. There are paid car parks close by charging five. Pounds for four hrs - would they be of any use or any reduced rates for residents - guessing not ehh?
  3. Mosshead primary school only has 9-3 hrs with no wraparound service it seems - any idea what do other parents do for cover 7.30-6 pm which is what I need as both of us work fill time . Checked skoolzout for wrap around service but that’s so expensive 20£ per day - is that the only option?
  4. Guessing there is nothing else I can do to get in Bearsden primary can I?

Thanks for your help ...

Me again!
I'm not sure where you are staying but there is free 24 hour parking on many side streets round the cross.

I live in Bearsden. There aren't residents parking permits around here so no idea what you're on about. There is no way of getting free parking in the car parks, but there is no charge after 5.30pm and on Sunday so you can park overnight free of charge. No reduced rates for residents.

In terms of renting, agree with others that there are very few rental properties in Bearsden.

0.9 miles really isn't that far and the route from near Bearsden Cross and Bearsden Primary along to Mosshead is on quiet residential streets. It's do-able on a scooter or bike for a 5 year old. Or just drive like 99% of parents around here appear to do.... But how is that an issue for you if you are planning on using before and after school care anyway?

Skoolzout is the only option for afterschool at Mosshead yes. They operate (in normal times) from the ski club at the top of the hill and the kids walk from there to school and back again at the end of the day. There are plenty of childminders also locally offering after and before school care but I have never used any and can't really advise on how to find one.

If there is no space at Bearsden Primary then no, you can't force them to take your child. The Council have fulfilled their obligations by offering you a reasonable alternative close by. If you are planning on being in Bearsden long term, both schools feed into the same secondary school as well.

Sorry I was wrong about the afterschool care - SchoolzOut is the new one.

www.bearsdenafterschoolcare.co.uk/about1 is the link to the one which most people with kids at Mosshead use, which operates from the ski club. As far as I know it's very popular and you'd need to enquire about spaces.

Google "childminder Mosshead" and go from there.

Mosshead has a much nicer playground and sports facilities than BPS. Bearsden cross regularly exceeds safe pollution levels. The two schools have a very similar demographic.

0.9 miles may seem a long way now, but your DC won't be little for long.

RaspberryCoulis · 12/03/2021 12:38

Mosshead does have a much nicer environment. They had a new all weather pitch last year, and as we speak the play equipment / climbing frame at the infant end is being replaced or upgraded.

Thankyou ! It’s really encouraging

Usually one finds a place to park for an hour or so easily... but say if I have a day off on Tuesday - where do I park the car for the whole day? The signage on the street (new Kirk street) next to where we live say max allowed is one hour !

You park the car further away, where there is free on-street parking. Or pay for the pay and display. Or park the car overnight in the free car park at the station and leave it there all day.
