At a time when polls are showing unprecedented support for independence and even John Curtice agrees the polls are clear, why is Scotsnet such a bastion of unionist opinions? Is it just due to the demographic of Mumsnet? Why has this site become such a right wing enclave?

Yes I think industry sectors do lobby all governments and parties in opposition. yes it’s hard to juggle all interests of the country, but that’s their job.

Transparency, the truth and regarding electorate with respect and intelligence is important to me.

SNP were criticised (another blink and you’d miss it revelation; it’s in the ferret for anyone who is interested) for speaking out against increase in U.K. military funding but had multiple meetings with arms companies and the aerospace industry.

There is more than one way to subsidise industries; I would regard the letters from Boris Johnson and nicola sturgeon to every household about covid 19 at the start of the pandemic as subsidy for Royal Mail for example.

@StarryEyeSurprise

I'm hearing he's at the Southern. The man has no shame.
What the actual hell is going on?!
Graffitiqueen · 28/01/2021 13:50

Who the fuck thought it was a good idea for him to be visiting a hospital in the middle of a pandemic?!!! Never mind the fact that he's travelled the length of the country to do so?!

florafoxtrot · 28/01/2021 13:54

The whole thing is totally ridiculous on a number of levels. Not sure anyone can really defend this one! Hmm

Yes I've received about five of the 'The NHS is still open leaflets.

I knew about the aerospace engineering. Don't see any issue with that and actually had a female scientist come into my female stem class to talk about how she makes satellites (very interesting!)

Didn't know about links to arms companies. That shouldn't be going on.

It is perfectly legitimate for the PM of a country to visit regions of their country. Imagine the 'faux moaning' the SNP would make out of it if he never came here?
florafoxtrot · 28/01/2021 14:04

Essential travel? Restricted visitors to hospitals to protect spread of infection but absolutely fine for Boris and his entourage to be touring around?

I would have exactly the same view if he was visiting hospitals in Newcastle or Cardiff.

My mind is actually blown that you feel this is "perfectly legitimate"

StarryEyeSurprise · 28/01/2021 14:19

My mind is blown that some posters have made excuses for them keeping flights open until 100k dead and a year later, but I have 0 interest in arguing with anyone today.

florafoxtrot · 28/01/2021 14:32

Me too @StarryEyeSurprise.

I hope you're OK.

Jodri · 28/01/2021 15:00

@StarryEyeSurprise good to hear of more women in STEM, especially engineering (one of my dd is studying engineering) to inspire the next generation.

I personally don’t think there is anything wrong with arm companies or aerospace engineering (yes satellites good but they are also responsible for military aircraft, drones and military satellites etc).
It’s a ugly fact of life people have always fought wars and humans are violent. Even with the countries who say the don’t have a military, like japan, they do.

What sits uneasily with me is the moral and ethical contradiction and the perceived outrage. Most often displayed by SNP in this instance and on trident. No trident, no NATO. Which is fine if all the associated implications are detailed and discussed.

It’s like the art installation of the ceramic poppies at the Tower of London: when they were all dismantled and sold off there was an arms dealers conference and luxury dinner the week later. But who knew and not many people I think actually cared.

The older I get the more I see that we humans are a myriad of contradictions to suit ourselves and are all too easily fooled.
Yeah we are all jock tamson’s bairns but we are all numpties too.

Hmmm.......... Now there's interesting.

Jodri · 28/01/2021 15:36

@Cismyfatarse shocking reading.

Graffitiqueen · 28/01/2021 16:08

Sturgeon giving permission for the Celtic football team to travel to Dubai for training was another total outrage. I cannot understand how that was allowed.

StarryEyeSurprise · 28/01/2021 17:18

Thank you, I hope you're ok too.

Just feeling the anger and immense sadness today. I can't say too much but I've been supporting children who've lost loved ones to Covid and the fact that it's still happening to 1,000 families a day in the UK yet it's just kind of accepted gets to me.

Johnson's non essential jaunt to campaign for the union is just a smack in the teeth, isn't it?

StarryEyeSurprise · 28/01/2021 17:20

Oops , that was in reply to flora.

Graffitiqueen · 28/01/2021 17:39

Do you really think people on this thread are accepting it?! That's really bloody offensive, how dare you?!?!

Graffitiqueen · 28/01/2021 17:41

All people are saying is that there is a conflict between keeping the economy going and the leaders are under pressure from all sides. They absolutely got it wrong and it's appalling and a disgrace, but it must be incredibly difficult.

Graffitiqueen · 28/01/2021 17:42

I would not like to be the one making the decisions whether for Scotland or the UK.

MorrisZapp · 28/01/2021 17:44

Can anyone help me understand the Craig Murray thing? Is there genuinely a suggestion of a plot by NS to bring Salmond down by fabricating rape charges?

Graffitiqueen · 28/01/2021 17:45

I would like an explanation too. It just seems so bonkers.

Graffitiqueen · 28/01/2021 17:49

The most appalling decisions on this whole pandemic has been sending people into care homes having positive covid tests. That is criminal IMO.

Ah, great your dd's studying engineering. Can we get her in to speak to the kids once rules allow again? ;)

Hmm, I did think there was lots of countries in NATO w/o nuclear weapons. It's something I would love to get rid off.

I
