I lived through 2014 and we were told never again. It was divisive, nasty and it made me stressed and angry.
I lived in a rabidly pro-independence part of the country where teachers in my school openly recruited 16 and 17 year olds to their cause. Where a pupil took 2 weeks off as she couldn't cope with her isolation amongst her peers. Where a colleague gave out Yes badges to pupils and two nearby hills had "Yes" written on them in giant letters. Where flags flew and stickers were everywhere and my husband became more and more angry at the way "His" flag as a proud Scot had been appropriated by the SNP.
And I had to keep quiet because I am English and the community was, on the whole, angry with me personally when "No Thanks" won.
Had "Yes" won there would have been days off and marches and street parties but "No" was made to feel a bit ashamed and anti-Scottish and a bit old (because the old people caused the 'loss')
So, I came on here and found anonymous support and cold hard facts from StatisticallyChallenged, and others.
So, yes. Mumsnet brings people like me out to share our views. Because in real life we have to shut up because we "hate Scotland / are misogynists who hate NS / don't understand / are right wing / hate immigrants" Or eat babies.
Who knows.
But I don't want 2014 again. It was 7 years ago. Barely a blink of an eye.
And we bloody well won. For a generation. So it shouldn't happen again because it was just once.
The SNP don't get to keep asking until they get what they want. That is NOT democracy. It is being a sore loser.
