Scotsnet does not represent Scotland

At a time when polls are showing unprecedented support for independence and even John Curtice agrees the polls are clear, why is Scotsnet such a bastion of unionist opinions? Is it just due to the demographic of Mumsnet? Why has this site become such a right wing enclave?

@Graffitiqueen
Said I had a "bigly job"
I'm "not cut out for mumsnet "( been here pre pb)
Compared me to your younger sister

I've been called stupid
Sworn at - ok not unusual here but not usually directed at other posters

This thread is only goady if there's a pile on as per usual in Scotsnet

Scotsnet isn’t representative of the Scotland I know. The same old posters dominate and patronise. In real life Nicola Sturgeon enjoys an amazing level of confidence from the whole electorate for a political leader and the polls reflect a surge in favour for independence. You would think the opposite if you relied on Scotsnet for information.

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 21:10

None of that is calling you names is it?

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 21:12

Quite honestly complaining about someone swearing on mumsnet is ludicrous. I did. It tell you to fuck off or anything like that in which case you might have been justified.

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 21:12

I didn't

kamalasshaman · 26/01/2021 21:14

@Graffitiqueen I accept those aren't technically names... what shall I call them...
perhaps... insults?

OP posts:
Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 21:16

Oh I'll quite happily admit to insulting you. If you are going to start by insulting people though you should expect to get as good as you give.

JingsMahBucket · 26/01/2021 21:16

@kamalasshaman leave it girl, it’s not worth it. Take the sage advice from prettybird and walk away. :)

kurtrussellsbeard · 26/01/2021 21:16

@Cismyfatarse stop with the once in a generation line. If you actually believe your colleagues did that you should have reported them to your local authority. It's not having a referendum until the SNP get what they want. It's about what the electorate want. If the SNP are elected again then that is a clear mandate for another referendum. Much has changed and just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it less valid.

Graffitiqueen · 26/01/2021 21:17

And if you're going to make yourself look ridiculous then expect some piss taking on here.

kamalasshaman · 26/01/2021 21:23

@JingsMahBucket I think I'm going to. It's too wearing and Mary Berry is on tv Smile

The Scottish people had their chance to vote for independence. They voted no. The time has gone. That's my opinion.

Cismyfatarse · 26/01/2021 21:29

@kurtrussellsbeard It is a tiny school. And, yes, I should but they were also my friends and people who were teaching my own children so it was not that simple.

And I tried to discuss it with a senior colleague but she didn't feel the council would do anything so why ruin my place of work and my friendships.

And it was once in a generation. Not, every few years until the SNP win.

Constitutional change is a huge upheaval and should not be constantly threatened. It is divisive.

Witness this thread. It tears people apart and it tore up quite a few families and friends last time.

This time will be worse because we are all mentally exhausted from Covid. Bereaved. Upset.

We need unity and pulling together to rebuild. Not division.

Calyx72 · 26/01/2021 22:03

"Witness this thread. It tears people apart"

Grin that's made me laugh

ssd · 26/01/2021 22:09

I dont get the once in a generation thing. Nothing is set in stone. Why should it be? And ,again, I dont recognise the Scotland portrayed here, again. I didnt see families and friendships torn apart. But maybe that's cos I act like a grown up. Some of my family are pro Brexit and anti independence..so what, each to their own. Theres no drama.

This thread really personifies that scotsnet gives a skewed version of Scotland. And it plays into the hands of some of the south of the border posters who love to patronize us and keep us in our place.

StarryEyeSurprise · 26/01/2021 22:14

Ok, now I've recovered from the 'migrants in dinghys' comment..

Indy supporters, what are you most looking forward to in an Independent Scotland?

For me, it's getting rid of Trident and the associated costs ( whilst charging for holding it whilst a new base is built wherever its new home will be) and what that money will be spent on. Alsp, having our amazing MPs like Joanne Cherry back from WM. Oh, and saving the hundreds of millions that the SG currently pays to cover the UK Gov imposed bedroom tax.

ssd · 26/01/2021 22:17

Getting rid of the right wing old boys network fucking tories.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 26/01/2021 22:24

I'm on the fence re how I'd vote in another referendum (and I voted no last time because the white paper didn't give me enough confidence) but

And it was once in a generation. Not, every few years until the SNP win.

I disagree with that, the status quo I (and many others) supported when I voted no longer exists. Another referendum now is not a rerun of the same vote as far as I'm concerned because of Brexit.

florafoxtrot · 26/01/2021 22:26

It’s Trident for me too. I absolutely abhor the idea of nuclear weapons.

Calyx72 · 26/01/2021 22:29

I'm looking forward to different political parties who I can vote for on their manifestos rather than because no-one else could possibly get a referendum Smile
Each party working for Scotland not for the union.

This is like the £350 million for the NHS Brexit bus
StarryEyeSurprise · 26/01/2021 22:41

Yes. Also looking forward to opposition parties working for Scotland and not just biding their time, working for Westminster with their eye on being made a Baroness or Lord.

Eddie the Eagle won exactly the same amount of gold medals as Ruth Davidson has won elections in Scotland. Grin

On a more serious note I'm also looking forward to the SG and Public Health Scotland being able to implement their strategy of tackling Drug Misuse as a Public Health issue not a criminality issue, just like they did very successful regarding violent crime.

StarryEyeSurprise · 26/01/2021 22:42

What is WouldBeGood?

LetItGoGo · 26/01/2021 22:47

@Cismyfatarse just read your posts about your experiences.

I can see exactly why you wouldn't report stuff like that.

StarryEyeSurprise · 26/01/2021 22:55

Ah I see , I wrote hundreds of millions and I should have written tens of millions re the bedroom tax.

Tbf I've been markibg till midnight and up at 5 in the morning. Plus, I'm not actually campaigning to be in charge of the country aka Johnson.
