@Sootess

Surely, with the geography of Scotland, there’s an argument for opening schools regionally? Are they going to keep schools shut in Shetland, Elgin and Inveraray until community transmission is down in the central belt Hmm
This. Has anyone looked at their local figures recently- check what level/tier you’d be in if we were still working to that, it’s eye opening. Levels here now lower than they were in OctoberHmm

I would have thought easier to vaccinate on some of the islands. ?

Much smaller populations on some of them

kurtrussellsbeard · 27/01/2021 17:18

Plus it would give the exam year children in those areas a significant advantage over those whose schools would be closed. Not to try and change track here but I think even if we go back in March these children have missed too much. It's just not right to estimate them on the basis of this.

Groovee · 27/01/2021 17:23

Mr Groovee phoned the GP this morning. She's point blank refused to let him go back to work until they know any results. Damn and bugger, he's home all my days off now. But his complete look of shock made me laugh.

If schools return before Easter I will be very surprised.

Sootess · 27/01/2021 17:28

^ if it was to spike in Shetland, Elgin or anywhere else - where are the ICU beds for those people?
Probably one of the main cities, and the main city hospitals, are stretched.
So it's all linked together.^^

They will go to Inverness. Raigmore currently has 5 Covid patients in ICU

Bytheloch · 27/01/2021 17:29

Good point re exam level years, but surely some can be lifted such as nurseries and early years as a priority- absolutely no reason for those to be judged by central belt case hotspots.

Did you read the comment the other day 2 Docs and a nurse were sent to an island to do 4 jags. The poster did suggest they could have carried another 56 vials and done the island in one go.

2 Docs and a nurse for 4 jags.
I wonder who did the hard shift and did two jags.

I would have thought Boris travelling here can only be a good thing for his opponents 😂

However, and amazingly, I find myself thinking that he’s better on the way he talks about the nightmare of schools not being back. As @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us said.

It’s better than daily lectures to us naughty children

WouldBeGood · 27/01/2021 18:16

Oh.. so I’m assuming gyms won’t be open for a long long time?

Thinking about investing in a treadmill

Funnily enough I've seen peloton delivering twice in my street in the last 2 weeks...
shouldistop · 27/01/2021 18:21

I'd so love to go swimming a couple of times a week just now to try and get my body back into shape after the baby. Walking around in the cold pushing a pram with a trailing 4yo isn't quite the same as an hour to myself in the swimming pool.

Totally agree kids in Glasgow would be totally screwed over in this. They have already missed so much with all the extra two week isolations that have happened in high schools here . Plus doesn’t look like Glasgow numbers are coming down anytime soon.
LetItGoGo · 27/01/2021 18:32

I'm getting so unfit I've just lost the will.

So bad for covid too.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/01/2021 18:38

Just looked up East Lothian - 85/100k, 4.4% positive. A tier 2 in old money if memory serves me correctly. The old east/west cases split is still very much present

WouldBeGood · 27/01/2021 18:39

That’s what I’m worried about @LetItGoGo. For me and my boy.

Anyway, it will be win win as no doubt if I buy one they’ll immediately open everything 😂

WouldBeGood · 27/01/2021 18:40

I’m thinking the summer for gyms?

rookiemere · 27/01/2021 18:42

We managed to get a second hand treadmill just before the prices went rocketing up. It's important to buy a decent one if you're intending to do more than trot briskly on it. Not as good for endorphins as running outside though, although over the past few weeks that has been impossible here due to the ice.

rookiemere · 27/01/2021 18:43

It was possible to rent a treadmill- maybe worth a wee google.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/01/2021 18:45

There is a gym equipment hire place down airdrie way that were very good but I expect most of their stuff will be hired out. We got a rowing machine for a few months before a holiday a couple of years ago.

anon444877 · 27/01/2021 18:46

Ha I've been contemplating a treadmill too! Anybody have any recommendations?

With home school and work, I hardly get outside the house for that well known mental cure all, a nice walk on the ice in the dark.

titsbumfannythelot · 27/01/2021 18:49

I'd try a goblet of wine and some decent telly anon, a fractured bone is only going to make you feel worse. Sofa is safer.

anon444877 · 27/01/2021 18:51

Sofa is safer is a slogan I can get behind!

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/01/2021 18:52

These were the folks we hired from - I have no connection with them other than using them after a neighbour recommended:

WouldBeGood · 27/01/2021 18:55

I used to run outside when I lived in a quieter place. Too busy here as everyone is out, obviously, and I’m too fat and slow to be seen.

I struggle to motivate myself in this weather
Too, and DS will simply not run outside.

I’ll look into hiring. Second hand ones are like hen’s teeth.

WouldBeGood · 27/01/2021 18:55
