University maintenance loan - not paid?

My DC is resident in Scotland and gets a university maintenance loan plus a small grant due to our being a low income household, from the Scottish government. They go to university in England. At the moment, they're not allowed to stay in their university owned accommodation due to Covid, and are back at home in Scotland, following their course online.
They haven't received their maintenance loan for this term. It appears that it is only activated when they "sign in" at the university. They haven't been able to go to the university since the end of last term.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I have mixed feelings about this, as they don't have to pay for their university accommodation or food this term, and are not paying to stay at home. But DC feels aggrieved, as they now feel they have no money to pay for anything else that they need or want.

That seems a bit odd. I thought they just had to register once. But surely as most are remote, this must be triggered by "attendance" at classes. My Ds1 started back remotely in Scotland on Monday but DS still has at least a week to go.

Did your DS ever attend in person? Did he never book accommodation or gave they said he doesn't have to pay? That seems unusual. Maintenance should still be paid as my Ds1 lives at home and still gets his on application. You know it needs to be applied for annually yes? Your DS might still have bed and board to pay to you, a phone contract, car loan etc. They don't just decide to not pay as you aren't living away. Are you sure you DS has attended online or that he has confirmed everything he needs to? If so then he should contact student loan company to establish where the issue lies.

DC is officially back at uni now and has been attending sessions online. They were at university physically for the whole of last term and got the loan for last term.
So has your DC who's doing university remotely from home got their loan for this term?

yes, neither of mine have set foot inside their uni this year and both have their loan. younger DS has been living in Uni city but hasn't actually been in this year. He's in 2nd year. elder is in 3rd year.

Thank you for that. I've past it on.

Hope he gets to the bottom of it. Both mine got a letter after they applied, confirming the payment schedule and that first payment would arrive after registering in September. But then they also randomly got a letter in December confirming that their application had been received and that payment schedule was to follow. I wonder if there has been a bit of a mix up at the loan company this year.

DC only remembers receiving an email, which they can't now track down, so panic mode.
