@Rae36 that's awful. Our surgery says the community team will be vaccinating the housebound.

Dinnafashyersel · 23/01/2021 12:56

I would take everything about Erasmus and indeed Turing (its replacement) with a gigantic pile of salt. UK can't even seem to provide a campus experience for its own students let alone anyone else.

On that note my friends in Chicago have an S5 equivalent DC and a 1st year Uni. The S5 has a full programme of on-line education and her Uni sibling came home for the holidays and went straight back to his campus at the other end of the US after Christmas. My friend is a nurse and has already had her 2nd vaccine dose.

Watching what happens in Biden's US with interest.

Scottishskifun · 23/01/2021 13:04

It's so frustrating that it seems to be a postcode lottery again with vaccinations!

Our town also has now been dedicated as a vaccination centre which opens up in a few days. I'm glad to see it being set up and been impressed with how quickly they have got it sorted it. I don't get why they couldn't have done so a few weeks ago though.

rookiemere · 23/01/2021 13:09

I had a bit of a paddy with DH this morning. Proudly announcing that 5 million had been vaccinated and 500,000 were getting their vaccine each day. I grumpily retorted that this may be the case for England but not Scotland. I couldn't bear the situation again where they had a lot more freedom than us, purely because of a different government and this is likely to be the case. Of course they'll paint it as SNP being sensible and cautious unlike English government, but in reality it will be because we're vaccinating slower.

mondaywine · 23/01/2021 13:57

@PostPopper that his heartening to read. My own DF who is 72 and was on original shielding must had a text this week with a predicted date of mid February. Two friends have had their 1st vaccine and both called at end of the day due to surplus at the vaccine hub. One is a GP and the other a community MH worker.

Perihelion · 23/01/2021 14:19

My over 80's PILs were vaccinated on Thursday. They're in Fife.

Waverless · 23/01/2021 15:54

Some light on the way (literally) in two weeks we'll have an extra hour of daylight here in Glasgow - just looked on the bbc weather app for the forecast and noticed the rapid change to sunrise and sunset Smile

LetItGoGo · 23/01/2021 16:01

Right now seems quite light for 4 pm compared to Christmas week.

It's the little changes in hanging onto!

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/01/2021 16:10

We gain a out an extra 4 minutes a day, 2 in the morning and 2 at night but it always feels a bit more especially on a nice bright day :)

Lockdownbear · 23/01/2021 16:19

The daylight thing was another reason why people needed a break from lockdowns at Christmas / mid winter.
When it's dark and damp it's not great for meeting in parks or anywhere. MH goes down in the darkness.

WouldBeGood · 23/01/2021 16:39

I don’t actually care about daylight, it’s just a longer day with nothing to do

rookiemere · 23/01/2021 17:27

I'm looking forward to the extra daylight.

I walk rookiedog in the afternoon and at the minute when I'm working, I have to block out half an hour when it's still light and I never want to go back to work afterwards, and then end up working much later than I'm meant to as haven't got that nice delineation between work and home.

LetItGoGo · 23/01/2021 17:37

I wouldn't say daylight makes things great however I notice the days when I'm outside for a couple of hours I'm less antsy and / or miserable.

NotAnActualSheep · 23/01/2021 17:45

@Iwillneverbesatisfied

What's this news about Erasmus maybe coming back for Scotland only? Can they do that? Or is it a total pile of pish?
I think if they want to there is nothing stopping them (Wales is proposing it as well). A lot of universities have their own agreements between other universities anyway (fee waivers, grants for travel etc with money from various pots) and the benefits are recognised by the unis, in terms of encouraging links between other countries and potentially attracting intelligent people to live and settle eventually as well as being "morally" a Good Thing. I think everyone was pretty pissed off that the UK decided to leave, with no real reason given. I don't even think it was financial, given there's a budget for sending UK students to other countries... just not receiving them reciprocally in the UK, which is the bit that has potential economic (as well as academic etc) benefit to the uk!
NotAnActualSheep · 23/01/2021 17:48

Not particularly bothered about daylight, though it'll be nice to have a bit more time in the evenings to leave the house. I'd just like it to be less like an ice rink whenever I do so. I'm worried one of us will slip and end up in A and E... So, roll on it being a little more above freezing.

Rae36 · 23/01/2021 19:05

Me too. Feel much the same about beautiful blue skies and sunny days. They make me feel bad for being miserable. Grey days suit my mood right noe

blowinahoolie · 23/01/2021 19:27

I care about daylight a lot. Life is grim with so many hours of darkness. Can't wait til the evenings stretch out again, so DC can get out and play after dinner. Might get walking off my spare tyre too!Hmm

polarisation · 23/01/2021 23:58

Got an infuriating FB advert today. "Thinking of meeting up outdoors? 1 in 3 people with covid have no symptoms. Don't twist the rules. People will DIE." From "UK government for Scotland" or something, similar branding to the billboard posters with NHS staff in hazmat in scary colours (we don't watch anything with adverts on TV so sorry if this is old news).

I just can't even. Don't blatantly flout the rules and have a piss up in the park. Don't have a party in your house. But the picture used was maybe 2 or 3 people max. People will die if I take my toddler to the park and speak to another person Hmm

Lockdownbear · 24/01/2021 00:06

They have to realise people aren't going to go for an indefinite period of time with no face to face contact with family.

I froze my butt off today to walk with my DM. I'd normally see her weekly. But we've been sticking to the rules but I can't do it any longer. I know if I went near her house we'd end up inside, so trying to reduce risk. There were loads of families out in the park too.

Jakc · 24/01/2021 00:33

@Lockdownbear

Who makes up this shit?

Someone who the nearest they've came to having a baby is a "tiny tears" doll, and who has a very stereotypical view of working families.

That’s such a nasty comment especially considering she’s lost a child and isn’t child free by choice.
blowinahoolie · 24/01/2021 07:15

"That’s such a nasty comment especially considering she’s lost a child and isn’t child free by choice."

I agree.

RaspberryCoulis · 24/01/2021 08:29

I think @Lockdownbear made it clear she was not referring to Sturgeon - do you REALLY think she's the one who sits down and writes the patronising ads? Much as I dislike the woman, she can't get her fingers into everything.

Yes they're patronising ads and getting increasingly hysterical in their tone. The "don't bend the rules" ads with the fire colours and the dire warnings and the PPE clad medic are a UK campaign, not a Scottish one.

The Scottish ones we object to are the little cartoony ones with a voiceover saying something like "when your children are being little bastards and have just set the kitchen on fire don't shout! I find that counting to ten and speaking to them about their feelings works so much better". Or "On the dark evenings when you're depressed out of your skull just light a few candles and have a picnic"!

On a more positive note, my parents in the 75-80 group (but no other conditions which make them clinically vulnerable) have been called to the GP for their vaccination on Tuesday. Brilliant news.

blowinahoolie · 24/01/2021 08:46

My folks are in the over 70s bracket so should receive their blue envelopes from tomorrow, with an estimated date for vaccination between 1st and 18th February 👍

Going by my own age it is looking like April sometime... doubtful about this but you never know.

blowinahoolie · 24/01/2021 08:47

Definitely great news just for a change RaspberrySmile

rookiemere · 24/01/2021 08:52

That is good news about your DPs @RaspberryCoulis.

DH been sharing lots of chat about different groups thinking they need the vaccine before their turn in the queue - police, teachers, sportspeople yadda, yadda and so on. But it seems to me that the best thing was just to get on with the priority list as it stands.

Put my age into the Scottish omnicalculator, and at age of 50 it reckons I'll be getting my first vaccine 26/03- 02/04 which I'd be happy with. Maybe they are getting on with it after all.
