Vaccination plans for Scotland

I'm posting here as I can't find any great online about this. Can anyone point me towards plans for Scotland's COVID vaccination for primary care? I'm frontline NHS and received my first dose mid December but to be honest I'm more concerned about when my 78 year old DM and 79 year old in laws will get their vaccine. On Twitter I see multiple tweets from English GPs stating they have vaccinated all the over 80s in their area and are on to overt 70s now.
I just don't seem to be getting the same feelings of impatience in Scotland re the rollout compared with England.

Did you get your booklet in the post this week?

It references nhs inform. I'll add a link.

On twitter North Lanarkshire said it would start vaccinating over 80s from tomorrow

LizzieMacQueen · 10/01/2021 13:50

Just checked it myself, it perhaps doesn't give you the info but the message is loud & clear 'DO NOT CALL YOUR GP'

RaspberryCoulis · 10/01/2021 13:51

My parents are in DumGal and haven't been called yet, they are both in the 75-79 age bracket. Their neighbours who are in the 80-90 bracket have had appointments through for 19th January, at a hub in the town.

dementedpixie · 10/01/2021 13:57

And its apparently the Oxford vaccine they will be using for the over 80s in Lanarkshire from tomorrow

RaspberryCoulis · 10/01/2021 14:01

To quote my mum "I don't care who has made the vaccine and who gives it to me - I'd even let your Dad do it".

We've seen them twice in over a year. She's just desperate to see the kids and give them a hug.

Ragdoll27 · 10/01/2021 14:05

I've been thinking the same. England aiming to do all over 70s by mid February but looks like Scottish Government aiming for only over 80s in the same time frame.

Outsidemum1 · 10/01/2021 14:06

Over 80s next week in Stirling.

trumpisaflump · 10/01/2021 14:13

@LizzieMacQueen yes I got the leaflet and thanks for the link. I think I'm looking for more concrete information of when and where vaccinations might take place across Scotland. E.g. I gather Edinburgh is planning on using the ECC but no plans for mass vaccination hubs like this in the west of Scotland.
I think if I could at least see a plan for each area I could relax a little.

It doesn't help that I've volunteered to work in vaccination clinics but have a HUGE amount of training to be completed first of all. For example one of the modules from NES is 16 hours long! And that's just one of around 15 training modules I need to complete before I go on a shadowing placement. God knows when I'll actually be able to jab someone!

My 85 year old dad in Edinburgh hasn’t heard a peep yet. I’m more bothered about that than he is to be fair!

TheDuchessOfAquitaine · 10/01/2021 18:30

What’s ECC please OP?

Bilingualspingual · 10/01/2021 18:31

My over-80 parents in Edinburgh were told 9th Jan then got cancelled and put back til the start of Feb. Supply issues, they were told. This was through their GP.

OatcakeCravings · 10/01/2021 18:36

My GPs are vaccinating all over 80s registered with them over the next 2 Saturdays. Other GPs in my area doing the same.

AwkwardSquad · 10/01/2021 18:40

I’d like to know this as well, my 81 yr old mum hasn’t heard anything.

CoolHonda · 10/01/2021 18:41

I wouldn't get any hopes up. Everyone who has had the vaccination is still subject to the same restrictions as everyone else. Still have to shield, still have to restrict household visiting, still have to restrict visits to elders, still have to isolate if contact with an active case, still have to socially distance.
Those of us hoping to cuddle elderly parents or grannies wishing to cuddle grandbairns...nope, the vacc makes no difference to restrictions

AwkwardSquad · 10/01/2021 18:43

Yes, but they will be less at risk of contracting Covid and right now, that’s all I want.

Callisto1 · 10/01/2021 18:52

Only once the vaccine has had time to trigger the immune response. And I think the 90% protection is with the booster. Don't know how much data there is with single dose.

trumpisaflump · 10/01/2021 19:31

@CoolHonda I absolutely get that once my DM has the vaccine restrictions for the rest of the population won't be removed overnight but I will sleep a lot sounder knowing she has 90% protection from getting covid. She is in our bubble as she lives on her own and provides childcare for my DS but I'm not seeing her during this lockdown as I'm so concerned about this new variant. Once she has the vaccine (well 2 weeks later) we will see her again.

@TheDuchessOfAquitaine

What’s ECC please OP?
@TheDuchessOfAquitaine I think that's the Edinburgh conference centre.
RaspberryCoulis · 11/01/2021 12:08

7 mass vaccination centres open in England, they're broadcasting live from Newcastle on BBC Scotland, hoping to vaccinate thousands a day.

WHERE ARE THE MASS VACCINATION CENTRES IN SCOTLAND?

Oh that's right, they haven't got their finger out and sorted it.

This is just not good enough.

user1487194234 · 11/01/2021 13:06

We seem to be weeks behind England, don't hear NS banging on about that every day
And the freeman woman very evasive on Radio Scotland this morning

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 11/01/2021 13:10

@RaspberryCoulis the Scottish government is currently 'tying down' sites for mass vaccination according to Freeman this morning. So, as of now when mass vaccination is underway across England, we don't even have sites arranged yet?!! Absolute bloody shambles - it's not like the need for this couldn't have been foreseen.

I do see a commitment to match England in terms of vaccinating the top four tiers by mid Feb, although I'm not holding my breath. We have lots of grand plans announced, but what usually happens is:

  • target is missed
  • the target is quietly dropped and never mentioned again in the hope noone remembers it
  • if it is brought to light, no-one regrets it more than NS
  • some excuse is made (usually Westminster's fault somehow and all would be well if only we had independence)
  • new grand target set
Windyone · 11/01/2021 13:14

My 87 year old dad is 9th Feb pushed back from 9th Jan. Edinburgh

Bilingualspingual · 11/01/2021 13:17

@Windyone we’re twins. Is he south edinburgh?

tuttifuckinfruity · 11/01/2021 13:21

That's really shit. Scot gov really needs to pull their finger out.
