Vaccination plans for Scotland

I'm posting here as I can't find any great online about this. Can anyone point me towards plans for Scotland's COVID vaccination for primary care? I'm frontline NHS and received my first dose mid December but to be honest I'm more concerned about when my 78 year old DM and 79 year old in laws will get their vaccine. On Twitter I see multiple tweets from English GPs stating they have vaccinated all the over 80s in their area and are on to overt 70s now.
I just don't seem to be getting the same feelings of impatience in Scotland re the rollout compared with England.

You will have to excuse me if I don't quite believe the data released from the government. After all, it is them that got us into this mess in the first place. If you think medical research is rubbish, I think you should stick to government advice. Unfortunately, burying your head in the sand will not be as effective as following proper scientific guidance. Smile
Although, as we've all had a chance to learn, words "scientific guidance" and "UK government" cannot be used in the same sentence.

FloraFocus · 13/01/2021 14:37

EAparent kudos for the quick pivot from "first shot is next to nothing..not much immunity at all" to "yeah only about 50 %"

FloraFocus · 13/01/2021 14:38

To ..yeah well " don't quite believe the data"!

EAparent · 13/01/2021 14:46

Smile You seem to misunderstand what 50% efficacy is. It doesn't mean all people given the shot get 50% immunity. It means some don't get it at all. Some get a lot, close to 90% chance of preventing a symptomatic illness. Statistically speaking, 50% chance of preventing a symptomatic illness is not a lot, considering that a very large percentage of people actually have asymptomatic Covid anyway! By various estimates, from 25-40% of the population will not notice if they get sick. In this context, 50% efficacy does not mean it's 50% effective. It means 50% don't have symptoms after it. You have to ask yourself - how many wouldn't have had it anyway? And please don't say "but in the vulnerable populations it's a much higher chance" - the vaccines were not tested on the vulnerable populations. 50% is a general number across the age groups.

@TheDuchessOfAquitaine. We have just started our first clinic today! The vaccine delivery is the problem. As GP s we have been ready to go for ages. It was quite moving seeing all the people coming in. Have also learned you can get 11 doses out of most of the 10 dose vials so we can have a standby list.

The hubs in Edinburgh are being prepared for the under 80s. The work going on behind the scenes is phenomenal.

We are worried about the snow forecast as we might have to cancel tomorrow and one of our nurses suddenly had to go off sick with a temperature at 12.30 an hour before the clinic which meant all hands on deck to get her clinic done

FloraFocus · 13/01/2021 14:48

No I do understand that but keep on with your sterling work.

Noone should be abandoning distancing yet because of a vaccine shot on that we can agree.

Musicaltheatremum · 13/01/2021 14:53

You will get very short notice for the vaccine. We were told last week we should get 100 if our 300 doses in on Monday but we're told not to call people until it arrived but we had clinics blocked off and telephone lists ready to go as soon as it came through the door. Believe me we are ready for this and very excited. I think there are 4 or 5 sites for mass vaccination in Edinburgh. We did the flu clinics in November at them so are learning all the time.

TheDuchessOfAquitaine · 13/01/2021 18:18

@Musicaltheatremum he was vaccinated today! Sounds like it may have even been you! Thank you 🙏 feeling very relieved.

trumpisaflump · 13/01/2021 20:06

So it looks like the vaccination plan has just been published. No wonder I couldn't find it! Scotland's vaccination plan

Thanks for that @trumpisaflump, that's interesting reading. Kind of missing the point I know, but I'm blown away at the number of Scots who fall into the priority groups - 3.375M or 61% of us. I checked the UK one for comparison and 49% of England falls into the priority groups (which also really surprises me!), but it does suggest that in Scotland we need to actually be exceeding the proportion of people vaccinated compared to elsewhere in the UK to be in the same place IYSWIM - a greater proportion of us need to be protected.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 13/01/2021 22:16

My friend’s 90’year old mother got hers today in Morningside. She was called yesterday!

Downton57 · 13/01/2021 22:48

@trumpisaflump thanks for that plan. Looks like my partner should get his in March and me sometime in April which is quite heartening. And thanks @Musicaltheatremum too. I opened this thread prepared to be depressed and actually feel a bit better.

RaspberryCoulis · 13/01/2021 22:51

Just reading it through now - "planning assumption of 5% wastage".

Not good enough. I know dozens of people who would drop everything and get to a vaccination centre within minutes if there was any going spare.

FloraFocus · 13/01/2021 22:57

I think it said it includes accidents, storage errors. And that in reality it was better than that so far.

RaspberryCoulis · 13/01/2021 23:07

I'm half considering volunteering. I usually volunteer 4 hours a week at a charity shop, but that's stopped. If I can do the same 4 hours sitting in the Gp surgery phoning people to book appointments, I;m happy to do that. Or similar.

RaspberryCoulis · 13/01/2021 23:15

So I just sent an email to the address for volunteers, and it's bounced. Invalid...

Super.

Scottishskifun · 13/01/2021 23:18

I have no idea what category I fall into as I have mild asthma from that document!
Looks like DH will be up soon due to potential inspections of settings! It's very interesting reading though thanks Smile

MrsAmaretto · 14/01/2021 00:03

@trumpisaflump I don’t get the who-ha around that training that’s in the press? If a fire alarm goes off in a testing centre/ doctors I’d expect the vaccinator to know what to do, likewise look after my patient information. Child and adult protection are a given in the public sector too. Annoying if there is duplication in the medical side of the training but I want someone who knows what they are doing jagging my family. Otherwise that meme about getting Amazon to deliver the jags is the way forward!

WouldBeGood · 14/01/2021 00:25

I’d happily volunteer too. Does anyone know of a link that won’t fail?

RaspberryCoulis · 14/01/2021 08:59

@WouldBeGood the email link in the doc says offersofsupport.vaccine*@gov.scotland. I changed the domain to say @gov*.scot and it didn't bounce.

Haven't had any sort of reply but it is not even 9am yet. I would have expected an automatic "thanks for being in touch we'll get back to you" email though.

rookiemere · 14/01/2021 09:01

I would volunteer. Friday is my non working day and I could do something non skilled like car parking guidance or something.

WouldBeGood · 14/01/2021 09:10

This vaccination from The Courier is really good. It was linked to on another thread

WouldBeGood · 14/01/2021 09:14

The whole vaccination plan page has now disappeared, peculiar

RaspberryCoulis · 14/01/2021 09:23

Well if you can get something as basic as an email address wrong, there may be other issues too.

WouldBeGood · 14/01/2021 09:25

Usually when the SG take something down there is a reason for it, like a change of plan
