Kids making new friends during lockdown after move

We just had to move house for a job. I wondered how I can help my P4 child make new friends now that schools are closed for weeks. Single child and he’s so lonely already after the long Christmas break and he’s really struggling.
Misses his friends, he cries a lot, and it’s breaking my heart. (He is in touch with them a bit playing online, but it’s not the same)

Sorry slippy fingers. What I wanted to ask - has anyone got any ideas?

A post of the local Facebook page/group. Introduce you and your family there maybe other families in a similar situation.

Local playground? Ours are quite busy still. Might be a bit daunting though.

Does your school have class reps? If so they might be able to give suggestions. 2 adults and children can still meet outside so maybe that would be an option if you could find a helpful parent via social media?

Or maybe some zoom club/activity that he likes? Scouts or the like?

We’ve had a new child start “school” next week. Headteacher passed on (with permission) the mums name and contact info to the parent council member from her child’s class. The mum was added to our What’s App class group and outside “play dates” have been arranged/occurred in the park so the child can get to know them.

Thanks all, that’s good advice. I’ll ask school whether they can help us get in touch with class mates etc and hit the local playgrounds

Does he like football? Some football teams are still training. SYFA have said it's up to Individual teams if they have certain protocol in place.

Watching with interest - we are in exact same situation OP, it's heartbreaking.

@lisam78 good luck to yours too in that case, hope it goes well!
