Arewethereyet! It just seems bonkers that bowling, tennis, rugby and golf clubs could be running childcare under the guise of outdoor sports when kids are meant to be home schooling.

RJnomore1 · 03/01/2021 14:36

Hi just checking in on trepidation of tomorrow’s announcements

Sigh

Is that not better than kids going to grandparents though? Edinburgh Council are suggesting that kids should be looked after by friends or family rather than go into the hubs while parents are working.

@MamaTookMyEyebrows

Well we are meant to be moving house at the beginning of February.

Guess that’s not going to happen

wasn't moving house allowed even in 1st lockdown? Maybe not encouraged but not banned?

Honestly can't remember but hope it happens for you.

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 03/01/2021 14:42

Thank you Wax.

I think they weren’t happening in March unless strictly necessary (and my friend said something about removal companies not working anyway).

Trying hard to keep perspective and not sink into the depths of despair today. But that, coupled with working and home schooling a six year old and supervising a three year old? I’d sooner take my chances with the virus.

fluffyugg · 03/01/2021 14:43

I really hope they don't ban meeting others outdoors, then the kids are really going to find it hard. Not that it's warm enough to do much but a walk or play outside with a friend is worth a lot

Arkadia · 03/01/2021 14:46

In all probability they are going to shut places of worship, even though they are very likely the safest places on earth (and not just because of the presence of the Holy Spirit) and shutting them will make no difference, except to the mental health of a few people (but hey... who cares).

I went to the dentist just the other day and my treatment is now finished, but hopefully they will stay open.

WouldBeGood · 03/01/2021 14:54

@MamaTookMyEyebrows moving home should be ok, don’t worry. Check with your removal company but that seems like essential work that can’t be done from home to me.

fluffyugg · 03/01/2021 14:56

That's the thing, whatever is left...outdoor sports, meeting one other household outdoors, places of worship must be minimal in making a difference to the spread but make a real difference to peoples well being. There's really nothing risky left to take away!

Bikingbear · 03/01/2021 15:12

Thinking of other places that were closed the last time, recycling centres but not just the places where the public drop stuff off but the actual reprocessing plants where stuff gets taken to.

Whatever the end is in sight, along with the Easter Bunny and Cadbury creme eggs 🐰

fluffyugg · 03/01/2021 15:16

Yes, the end is in sight...just hope this lockdown is coupled with a huge drive to get through the vaccinations

Perihelion · 03/01/2021 15:17

Please stay at home as much as possible and avoid non essential interactions with other households

That was on NS's Twitter at the end of a thread, posted this morning. So I reckon that will be part of the tighter restrictions...which is utterly fucking shite for my DD, who has no siblings. Have told her to go out tomorrow while it's still legal. She's been good at only meeting up outdoors, judging from her Snapchat, lots of others have been hanging out inside.

Bikingbear · 03/01/2021 15:20

It needs to be although I'm stunned they didn't already have zillions of vaccinators recruited, ready to be deployed with the needles, in hand what have they been doing for 9mths.
You could grow a baby in that time and they're only just advertising positions wtf!

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 03/01/2021 15:25

What are the public health reasons for keeping schools shut in Scotland exactly? I don’t want some “it’s a new strain” condescending answer from the government. Will opening schools cause hospitals to be overwhelmed? They don’t give anything a chance to work. We’ve all been absolutely hammered with restrictions all year, and it’s made no difference. I don’t consent to them taking away my children’s education. It was always deemed to be the highest priority to have face to face education now it’s being ripped away from them again. A 5 yo can’t learn remotely. It’s a disgrace to put children’s lives on hold again. I can see why they are closing schools in England with higher cases and hospitals under pressure. But is there the same pressure all over Scotland? At least they are taking a regional approach there. And all paediatricians are saying kids are at no more risk!

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/01/2021 15:25

Agreed bikingbear, being in position and ready to roll with vaccines should have been an absolute priority. Especially with the likes of retired health care staff who are willing to come back to do it. They should have been recruited, vetted, trained and ready.

littlbrowndog · 03/01/2021 15:29

This shows some figures up to 28th December

Just two Scots under the age of 45 with no underlying health conditions have died during the coronavirus pandemic.

Out of the 4,416 Covid-19 deaths registered by the Scottish Government, just two of were of people under the age of 45 with no underlying health issues.

A chart compiled using Public Health Scotland data shows that 27 people in Scotland under the age of 45 have died from coronavirus during the pandemic and two of the deaths were from people with no comorbidities.

According to the data, 367 people in the age 45 to 64 category have passed away from the virus, with 29 of these deaths occurring in people with no underlying health conditions.

Bikingbear · 03/01/2021 15:30

Iquietlikenormallity

The SG talk a good game but actually their actions speak 100x louder than words. They want to stand on their soap box and say we did it better - regardless of what else they fucked up in the process!

littlbrowndog · 03/01/2021 15:31

And this for children in lothians

14 children from the NHS Lothian health board have been admitted to hospital for treatment for coronavirus since August.

New figures show that between August and 21 December, a total of 14 children under the age of 18 were admitted to an NHS Lothian hospital with coronavirus, none of whom required treatment in an intensive care unit.

Eight of these admissions were of children aged five or under, whilst no admissions were recorded for children aged 6-10.

Less than five admissions were recorded for children in both the 11-15 and 16-18 age brackets.

randomsabreuse · 03/01/2021 15:34

I'd love there to be tennis camp. It has generally been 2.5 hours per session which is a bit of a break for me/2 yo. We can have a gentle mooch around a park, or some shopping (Waitrose/Aldi) without a crazy under stimulated 5 year old literally bouncing off the walls. If not I'll just have to hire a court which will burn off energy (but no social possibilities). I'm not convinced my 5 yo will cope with a prolonged lockdown, might need to do some informal childcare for opposite neighbours to keep her sane!

anon444877 · 03/01/2021 15:37

If we're asked to struggle past 18 jan remote schooling and working I want a daily update on vaccination progress, major blockers, what's being done etc. I do understand the restrictions but clear evidence that nothing has been left untried with maximising the speed of the vaccine programme would help people hang on.

I wonder why they think folk would be more able to cope with depressing school news in January, so many of us find jan a low point as it is!

Bikingbear · 03/01/2021 15:40

I can't see camps being allowed because of number and toilets etc. However I really hope kids aren't prevented from playing in parks or with friends.

Easter bunny chocolates already in our local supermarket 🙈 I can’t decide if that gives me hope or just another few pounds piled on because I can’t run on the icy pavements and no gyms open.
fluffyugg · 03/01/2021 15:45

@anon444877 I agree, the population need to know that it's full steam ahead on a huge scale with vaccinations if we're to hang on living like this in Winter, that would certainly help

Fully agree. If it's deemed necessary to provide us with the numbers of hospital admissions, ICU patients and deaths every day, we should be told how many are vaccinated each day and the projections for the coming weeks. Every day, at the briefing.

I'm currently on maternity leave which started the week before lockdown. My three year old is asking me how many sleeps until he can go back to nursery, he loves it. My only respite has been going for walks with other parents on mat leave, where you speak to people who have really been struggling, or their baby has never actually met another child properly. If they take all that away, I think a lot of new parents will really struggle. Sad

Also find it strange that some nurseries have managed to stay open for non-key workers, apparently with SG approval? I go back to work soon....not sure how that's meant to work with an 11 month old and 3 year old at home with meHmm.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 03/01/2021 16:03

I agree with that. If they’ve not put absolutely everything into vaccinations then it’s unforgivable to take away the schools. This just a bit more restrictions till R is below 1, and then you can have Christmas... just a bit more till cases come down... just a bit more then you can have Easter... just a bit more till zero covid... it is like a boy who cried wolf situation (someone said that on another thread) and how can we trust that we won’t be living this way in the summer?!
