Escape rooms and masks? WTF??

We have a deal with my parents that rather than buy the kids "stuff" at Christmas, they give us vouchers for some sort of family activity or day out. This year the kids have decided they want to do an escape room. Fine.

But nearly every escape room I look at wants us to wear masks? Not just in communal areas, but in the actual room? When it's just our family group in there?

Completely bonkers. Does anyone know of anywhere which won't enforce masks? I can wear a mask for a short period but certainly not an hour. Fuck that. Sucks all the joy out of it too.

If you’re all from the same household it seems like overkill but it might be something they have to do to claim they’re a ‘COVID secure’ establishment. If you take your masks off in the room I doubt they’d burst in demanding you put them in again though.

Maybe do it online or wait until Spring/ Summer. I am guessing that if they are old enough for escape rooms then they are old enough to wait a few months.

Coming from somewhere that's full masks all the time except in your home, I would not find that a big deal but I understand masks are hard for some people if you're not used to it.

I agree that for a venue business to stay open in these terrible times they are trying to show they're following very strict health procedures. If you cough all over the surfaces and the next group comes in, they could be touching your germs.

This is Scotsnet... Masks are not required everywhere outside the home.

If they are demanding masks inside the room we just won't do it. It's sucking the joy out of everything. I have emailed explaining that we are one household and will see what they say.

The rooms aren't particularly well ventilated and have a quick turnaround so I guess they are just trying to mitigate the risk for the next family entering the room and the staff who may need to come in to offer clues/reset the scene.

I thought the same. I ended up not booking. I guess it's so they can get the next group in quicker. My 8 year old really wanted to do one but he hates wearing a mask.

Exactly this.

If you don't want to wear a mask pick an outdoor activity.

I cant get my knickers in a twist about this. Think you just need to suck it up.
